Dying a dark semi with a lighter permanent- will this work?

The semi dark ash brown I used turned out near on black in my hair. With a reddy/orange tint from underneath from a previous permanent dye.

I have been washing with head and shoulders and used hot oil but alas it doesn't look much different.

My hairdresser is busy for the next few weeks and I want it lighter.

If I put a light brown permanent over it will it work?

Try a colour remover such as Colour B4 or Jo Baz first.

I'm too scared! I don't want patchy orange hair :(

No the base colour is probably too dark.

I'm afraid not. You need to strip the black off first.

Alas I thought this would be the case.

Safer to wait for the hairdresser I imagine?

:(
