Losing weight/winter clothes

Help! Ive lost a bit of weight recently and have gone down from a tight size 22 to a size 16/18 depending on the shop. I've got a way to go still, but as it is, most of my clothes are having to go as they are too big. Ive got away with it in summer as I've been slowly replacing as I've been losing. However ive realised my plan of 'all these clothes will look fine really loose' is entirely wrong, and I am going to need a lot of new stuff for winter.

So basically I'm looking for recommendations of shops I can buy some reasonably good quality jumpers, cardis and dresses from for not very much money. They only need to do me one winter as hopefully i'll be smaller again, or even at goal, by the next one. I've been v nervous about going into shops that I had previously not been able to squeeze into things in, and seem to just be stuck on a neverending loop of New Look, Dorothy Perkins, and the local supermarkets. Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Congratulations. If you are on a tight budget EBAY can be very good. Otherwise as a 16 I think most of the high street will have stuff you are looking for.

I personally like COS and white company for dresses.

Well done on your weight loss I'm also having to replace everything autumn /winter from being a 22 down to a 14/16 Smile
I'd still like to loose another 2 stone so far I've bought quite a few bits from matalan as I find they wash ok and not huge £££

A massive well done on the weight loss!

I dropped a few dress sizes over the last year and know that baggy old clothes just don't cut it! I shopped for in between sizes in H&M (tops only as bottoms are weird size), New Look, supermarkets, and ebay for better quality items (work clothes etc).
Good luck with the rest of your weight loss journeyGrin

Thanks everyone! I'm only about halfway, still got around 4 stone to go, but I think even if I don't get all the way I'm happier now than I ever was. I am going to the shops today, have a small amount of cash stashed away and I decided if any day was a rainy day, this was it. Thanks for your recommendations!

Let us know what you'd get Grin

Well done! Would you spend a little on wrap style tops and dresses.. You can tighten them or get stuff altered once you read goal? I like new look but I know it is easy to get into a rut.

Also you could get some nice cardi's a little smaller but go for you true fit trousers, then wear plain cheap vest tops that you can easily replace. A nice red cardi, biscuit coloured.. Then get few light scarves.

A nice feeling though ... You must feel great !

Well done. I'm halfway through my weight loss and it is a great feeling when you realise you need a new wardrobe isn't it :)

What I have done when replacing items is to go for things that I can alter or cheaper versions which will be fine for a year.

so for my friends wedding I have a beautiful dress that I can have taken in when I am thin and for my work wear I have bought primark vests, H&M tops and new look trousers. Then the money I have saved will be used when I have lost the weight and then I'm booking a personal shopping trip

SuperDuperJezebel · 25/08/2013 18:55

Well today's shopping trip was a bit of a bust, I wasnt in the zone for shopping, but I did get a couple of nice things:
This dress which isnt strictly wintery, but will be fine with a cosy cardy, leggings and boots.
Perhaps these boots?! - I tried them on a few months ago but my calves were too fat, now they fit nicely!
And a dress from Primark, which I can't find online, but it looks almost exactly like this and was only £12, so I'm happy!

Going to have to do some more shopping, but its a good start. Thanks for all your tips, I shall take them on board!

I like those very much. May have to have to have a little wander myself this week!
