Spyder ski jacket for a 2 year old?

I have been eyeing up Spyder ski jackets for DS (2 next month). Partly because they used to be what all the ski instructors wore. Partly because last winter was such a pig.

However they are expensive. And DS is going to carry on growing. Am I being daft?

Is your ds a ski instructor?

It's designer ski wear, you're paying for the name rather than the functionality. If you've got money to burn then fine, but it's not going to keep your DS much warmer than say a Trespass or Columbia ski jacket.

I know, it does seem like silliness. I think I just like the Spyder logo. Awesome, will check out Columbia.

You should buy yourself one, at least you will be able to get lots of wear out of it.

Try M&S - they have had nice ski wear past couple of years.

Look out for them in 2nd hand shops in affluent areas. I got one to fit a 12 yr old for £15.

Everyone else is in Trespass (mainly from TKMaxx).

I'm too pregnant to ever imagine fitting into anything ever again. Therefore am living vicariously through DS.

We ski a lot and good friends of ours own a ski school in Switzerland. They regularly describe owners of Spyder ski clothes as 'all the gear, no idea' - ie people who like the look, but not the sport! That alone would put me off, never mind the cost when they will only do a maximum of one winter in it.

You can get some really decent priced kids ski wear in TK Maxx - Quiksilver, O'Neill, Burton, Patagonia, Salomon - all good stuff. Otherwise for kids I rate Dare2b - affordable when they are growing with no compromise on performance.

Thanks Gradually - to be honest that puts me off too - I needed some people to tell me not to be so silly. Plus DH (although a tolerant man) may be quite irritated if I spend a fuckload on ski gear for the little boy.

I'll check out that stuff you recommended. I bought him a ski jacket from Boden last winter and while it was okay I'm not sure it was actually warm enough to wear up a mountain.
