Where buy nice nighties?

I'm going away in a few weeks, and sharing a room with a friend for the week. It has occured to me though that i do not possess any suitable nightwear. I normally sleep in just my pants, which i of course will not be subjecting my friend to!

I have a couple of pairs of PJs but hate sleeping in them. I find them too restrictive and uncomfortable. All the nighties/ nightshirts I've seen are super sexy and revealing/ frumpy and grandma like/ covered with cute cartoon-like animals. I am 35 years old and want something knee-length that does not make me look like i am going on 16 or 60, and is not intended to help me seduce! Any ideas? Links would be absolutely great too!

I'm 38 and always flash my bum in nighties. ..I prefer shorts and vest sets, have a nice one from m&s...have you considered those?

gindrinker · 24/08/2013 14:46

I don't think they exist?
I'm another shorts and vest wearer. Try tk Maxx's night wear section.

gindrinker · 24/08/2013 14:49

www.thewhitecompany.com/clothing/nightwear-and-slippers/mixed-stripe-nightie--ash-rose/
Had a thought... White company? £38 though!

CointreauVersial · 24/08/2013 14:54

I wear PJ trousers and a vest or cami. Primark is good for cheapos.

If you really want a nightie, M&S (big branches, at least) have a good selection, if you look past the inevitable edwardian-style passions-killers. I bought one for DSis recently, long teeshirt style, but quite pretty; not a teddy bear or a cheesy logo in sight.

RedPencils · 24/08/2013 15:00

I love nighties, can't stand pjs, even short ones.

I've had a couple of nice shirt style ones from TK Maxx. The White Company have some lovely ones, but a bit £££ if you're not ping to wear it often.

RedPencils · 24/08/2013 15:02

Oh and after a tip in here I also look in the beachwear section. Some strappy beach cover up dresses work well as a nightie

AnythingNotEverything · 24/08/2013 15:10

I wouldn't go for a nightie either. I hate them and the way they ride up.

How about a set of cropped leggingswoth a t-shirt or long vest? They normally have some in Next. You don't have to go with official nightwear though - any leggings would do.

MillyMollyMandy78 · 25/08/2013 10:14

Thanks, great tip about looking at beachwear - would never have thought about that! The white company looks nice too. Thanks for all of the other suggestions, but i have to have a nightie - nothing else is comfy for me. Find pyjama bottoms get twisted etc when i sleep, and drive me mad!

I haven't checked the range but Bodas does nice not over top stuff.

Cremolafoam · 25/08/2013 13:07

Amazingly BHS has a good selection in lots of lengths ( essentially bum covering and without teddy beats- bleurgh )here
Primark also has £10 tshirt maxi dresses which work well for me as nighties

KosherBacon · 25/08/2013 16:18

Cremolafoam- that one is lovely, shame its viscose not cotton.

I like nighties, I only wear pjs when staying out.

sonlypuppyfat · 25/08/2013 16:20

I'm a bigger girl built for comfort! I buy mine in Evans nice thick material and wash nice

paperlantern · 25/08/2013 18:26

I too have trouble with restrictive nightwear. I've found the microfiber nightwear you get in m&s fabulous. it doesn't look much on the hanger but ive found tends to look smart and modest.
have also bought a knee length nightdress in similar fabric for George at asda that has been pretty good.
ive also frequently paired a nightie with a pair of pj bottoms so your very decent walking around in the morning but you can slip the bottoms off in bed.

paperlantern · 25/08/2013 18:42

I should add from Marks I have a plain microfiber dark red matching set of nightie, pj top and pj bottom. I picked it because it was the most covering set I could find for a holiday sharing a hotel room with a male relative Grin . it really was dire on the hanger, but it looked good on despite covering pretty much everything. I also have a long night gown from Marks which would fit the bill. both past lines else or would link but as I pick something up from the sales most years im guessing they are pretty standard.

missbopeep · 25/08/2013 18:58

Always The White Company.
Code AC 217 gets you 20% off until 28/7.

I don't like PJs- too much elastic round waist and all trussed up feeling.

MillyMollyMandy78 · 25/08/2013 22:21

Thanks for all those suggestions. I'm gonna go and check them out now! Never thought of BHS and would probably have walked straight past the stuff in Marks too, had I not known! That White Company discount is calling to me too! Decisions, decisions!

Sainsburys!

TheYamiOfYawn · 25/08/2013 23:34

28/7 was a month ago, though, so no discount Sad

Swanlike · 25/08/2013 23:43

I'm a fellow nightie wearer for pretty much the same reason as you and I second T K Maxx and M & S. John Lewis can alas be good, I usually wait for the sale. If you have the money, Toast have some lovely Indian cotton nighties - I'm hoping for one for Xmas.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 25/08/2013 23:52

I had this from Hush for a couple of years - leasted really well until the moths got it ,good quality pointelle and not too shapeless.
I also had a similar White company one which was pretty good but not quite such good quality for the price.

sonlypuppyfat · 26/08/2013 00:21

You could go out in that Shotgun. Its nice to know its not just me who hates pjs

missbopeep · 26/08/2013 10:10

Sorry The White Company code is valid to 28/8- typo.

You can enter it online but in person you need to show page from RED mag.

MillyMollyMandy78 · 26/08/2013 18:43

Shotgun, that is so pretty! Gorgeous colour. Have bought from Hush before and have always found their stuff good quality.

It is rather lovely. Quite a heavy, cosy cotton as well so it's good for winter. Might splash out on another one this autumn!
