Perfect socks

I have boots, now I need socks.

Woolly ones but not too thick, maybe cable knit or ribbed, soft not scratchy, ankle, in autumny colours like plum and dark red and foresty green. Oh, they also cannot cost twenty quid a pair. So, the Holy Grail of sockery.

Once found, they will peek alluringly from the top of my luffly new boots Grin

BUT WHERE ARE THEY

Perfect, but so expensive :(

I like Hobbs' socks. Gap used to be good but don't know if they still are.

BHS have some lovely ones I bought a week or so ago in a dark purple/plum colour. Type in Premium Purple 2 Pairs of Ultra Comfort Knee High Socks £6 for 2 pairs. Might not be what you are looking for though ideal for me.

Thanks Remus the Hobbs socks are lovely! Now I think I might get some patterned ones.

sharon are the BHS ones cottony or woolly feeling? Can't tell online!

John Lewis ( own) do a great pair made from wool and silk- spotty and stripy options. I have several- they are £7 a pair but do last, are soft and warm.

Saw some lovely JL ones in Waitrose today. They were grey with a pink stripe iirc.

rootypig · 24/08/2013 19:54

I went to JL today! (No Hobbs or BHS where I was). Didn't find any good wool ankle socks. Nor in M&S. got some stopgap ones in Gap. All very disappointing! Wah :(

Wait a few weeks and JL will have some- they have some in Waitrose at the moment as I bought a pair of grey-blue stripy in wool/silk.

Hey rootypig sorry for taking so long to get back to you, I would say the socks are more woolly than cotton.

rootypig · 25/08/2013 16:49

No probs thank you! Will try to get to BHS. I know the perfect socks are out there

BHS are great for socks, last winter I got the purple ankle socks. They are still on their website. Though when it says ankle it they are a bit longer than that. They washed great however and still wear them.

The John Lewis ones are lovely. I sneak a pair into the trolley every time we go to Waitrose Grin Sainsbury's used to do the most gorgeous soft thick dark purple socks but they've obviously changed the recipe because last Autumn/Winter they were really thin and went holey almost straight away.
