To gilet or not to gilet

Sorry!

But, its that time of year when my annual quest for a faux fur/shearling gilet begins.

It is greatly hampered by the fact I am 5ft and so can appear womble like if there is too much bulk and all the ones I like are £££

this is the type of thing I'd like but its too expensive.

So has anyone seen any recently that may fit the bill? thanks!

Po that is my problem. But you know, I've only been searching for about 5 years and I just know that this year will be year I find one Wink

Am taking my 3 dc's to get school shoes fitted today, I need some distraction.

I love a nice gilet but I had one like that from monsoon and it made me look really fat and dumpy. I'm 5 foot and a size 14.

I ended up giving it to my taller slimmer sister who looked amazing in it.

I think I look better in the padded type that fat face sell.

snowlie · 21/08/2013 08:11

To carry it off I think it helps if you are very slight of frame with no boobage....I am not, so these type of coats do not exist in my world. Smile

biryani · 21/08/2013 08:11

I think most people look like Wombles in them. If you''re very slim, perhaps with high heels?

If you're going to gilet, that's probably the best sort as it's fitted. The padded puffy ones always look awful, no matter who's wearing them, imho.

MrsCampbellBlack · 21/08/2013 08:15

I have a padded one from Denim and Supply but that's purely for going for walks type wear.

I did try one on last year in Harvey Nichols that was gorgeous but of course [[http://pinterest.com/pin/20125529557046065/ £££]

As a fellow 5 footer with large norks, I take pride in wearing mine. In a 'you might look not like a Womble nicer but I'm toasty warm thank you vair much' type way.

foxysocks · 21/08/2013 08:23

Won't surprise you to know that I really want one too. I want a more obv faux fur rather than shearling I think, not seen anything exactly right yet but will pin when I do!

SundaySimmons · 21/08/2013 09:01

I had one a few years ago but my children blocked the front door, refusing to let me out in it!

I thought I looked like Liz Hurley, but was forced to accept I looked as stylish as Liz Dawn.

LadyMilfordHaven · 21/08/2013 09:04

not with tits
and never really

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 21/08/2013 09:06

I never knew they were so contentious! I wear one all the time in Autumn! I'm 5.6 and a size 12...is it bad?

MrsCampbellBlack · 21/08/2013 09:08

No, its not bad. They are lovely. LadyM is wrong Smile

I like them.

Did you like the Muubaa sheepskin one?
I quite like it in the grey.

whiteandyellowiris · 21/08/2013 09:11

I liked them before they became really popular

mycatlikestwiglets · 21/08/2013 09:11

Ooh MrsCB I've just been looking at that one on the Outnet and wondering whether a gilet is a good/bad idea. Would quite like a shearling jacket really but might have to sell a child to get one as they are so £££. Will watch this thread with interest.

LadyMilfordHaven · 21/08/2013 09:12

they are for capable mum types who do playdates and buy organic milk.

Annianni · 21/08/2013 09:12

French Connection had some fake fur ones in the sale.

LadyM - I'm not talking blinking padded joules type. I am more at the Joseph end of the market, well in my dreams. You must know different playdate mums if they're wearing them to buy their milk Wink

Anni - it had sold out!

Mycat - oooh get it please - its actually not a bad price really. Well compared to others I've looked at.

Annianni · 21/08/2013 09:16

I buy organic milk but I'm not very capable and I hate playdates :o
