What shampoo and conditioner do you use?

And what's your hair like please?

I'm looking for inspiration. I've been using Johnson's baby for years (I used to struggle to find something that didn't set my eczema off. It's been gone for years, but I liked how my hair looked with those, so just kept using them). Anyway, they've stopped making the pink conditioner, and I really don't like the replacement. So I thought I was probably too old to use baby shampoo I'd try something completely different.

Also, I'm nosy and like to know what other people use, and this is an excellent excuse for it Grin

The Naked range has free delivery this weekend.

Oh man, forgot the brackets.

I buy whatever's on offer! I do like the John frieda blonde highlights shampoo best. I have long quite fine blonde hair that's in ok condition.

I use Lush solid shampoo. I still have some Herbal Essences I use occasionally, but compared to the Lush stuff it feels really chemically, and not squeaky clean. I would recommend trying it for problematic scalp.

My hair gets greasy real quick so I use one of the Aussie spray leave in conditioners, can't remember which one.

FortyFacedFuckers · 23/08/2013 12:14

Aussie Frizz Miracle i love it, i have very long, thick hair.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 23/08/2013 13:27

I might try the Aussie one then, lots of you seem to like it Smile

My hair is reddy-brown (not dyed), just below my shoulders and very thick (well each strand is fine, I just have a lot of it!) and straight.

polkadots if you've got a sensitive scalp, Aussie might not be the best for you. My hair loves it but it always gives me a rash. I'd recommend Green People Vitamin (made it onto mumsnet swears by one week, so not just me who's a fan) both the shampoo and conditioner are lovely and very mild, but somehow a little goes a long way. I've got brown soft shiny straight hair, medium thickness I guess. Dh has blonde curly hair and he agrees it's the only shampoo that doesn't make his scalp itch.

chocolatemartini · 23/08/2013 13:54

Aussie lovers look away, but those with sensitive skin read this (the bit under controversy)

Karbea · 23/08/2013 14:13

Omg! I don't use it, but definitely won't now!

Shitrus · 23/08/2013 14:16

Wow. Some serious claims there.

Will stick to the SLS free stuff :)

Kezztrel · 23/08/2013 14:18

I'm a bit confused by that Aussie Controversy section - I've heard (on MN) about the FD&C Yellow 5 ingredient potentially affecting fertility, but the fact that it contains parabens, sodium lauryl sulphate and is not certified as "natural" or "organic" is hardly controversial is it? Hundreds of cheap shampoos are the same aren't they?

Anyway, not trying to defend Aussie in any way, just can't understand that Wikipedia paragraph. I might change to just using Aveda from now on.

chocolatemartini · 23/08/2013 14:22

I only just found that Wikipedia article myself, was wondering what it was that irritated my skin so much. Would never have bought it if I'd known they test on animals, must be more vigilant about that in future

chocolatemartini · 23/08/2013 14:25

kezztrel I think it's because they market themselves as if they're a super wholesome natural type product. Yes SLS is in masses of stuff most people have in their homes. I think it's SLS my scalp objects to but hard to tell when you switch from something that has loads of chemicals to one that has very few.

chocolatemartini · 23/08/2013 14:30

Oh yes and I didn't think the bit at the end made sense either- why does it matter if the stuff you test on animals is organic or not? Surely testing on animals is either good or bad depending on your ethical viewpoint not depending on whether the stuff's organic? However, the list of ingredients is right I think, and doesn't read too well to me

Kezztrel · 23/08/2013 14:39

Thanks chocolate! I guess they do make a big deal of their flowery ingredients - but no more than other brands like Herbal Essences do, which also contain all those nasty ingredients mentioned in the Wikipedia article but make out that the minute traces of organic oils they contain are the ingredients doing all the work Hmm. I expect someone will come along and edit that Wikipedia section soon so it makes more sense and has better references.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 23/08/2013 20:06

Thanks Chocolate, I might try those then. My scalps not bad, but my face sometimes reacts badly, so I'll avoid the Aussie ones. My DSis uses Herbal Essences, but it makes me go very blotchy if I use it (although my hair smells gorgeous!).

Does anyone remember Fructis? That literally stripped the skin off my head Shock

smugmumofboys · 23/08/2013 20:20

My hair is mostly grey so dyed, very thick and curly/frizzy. I've tried lots of different products and have had good results with Liz Earle shampoo and conditioner and Aveda Smooth Infusion shampoo, conditioner and serum.

HotCrossBunsForAll · 23/08/2013 22:46

Fine, flyaway brunette highlighted hair down to shoulder blades - I use Tigi S factor with good results, the sunflower oil conditioner is just lovely!

applecrumbleandcream · 24/08/2013 11:27

Tresemme massive bottle of shampoo and conditioner which last me ages. Really cheap and the best I've ever tried.

TheBeanAndTheBee · 24/08/2013 14:46

Oh I hated Tresemme... Got sucked in by a free sample and when I first used it my hair looked good but the silicon build up was revolting half way through the bottle. Have since thrown it away and reverted to (expensive) redken.

peasandlove · 25/08/2013 00:25

another who hated tresemme.. worst shampoo ever.. I threw out most of a huge bottle of it

AmandaHoldenmigroin · 25/08/2013 02:40

Aveda shampure. I have an oily scalp and dry ends as well as sensitive skin (dry in places). This is the only shampoo at the moment that makes my thick hair look good. I can go for longer between washes too.
I used to use Kerestase which was excellent which I had to stop using after getting a dry scalp after backpacking in the heat for a few months.

AntoinetteCosway · 25/08/2013 06:41

The entire Naked range is amazing. No build up, no crap, just lovely. I have wavy, very long, thin but lots of it undyed hair. BBD + Naked = happy head.
