What shampoo and conditioner do you use?

I'm looking for inspiration. I've been using Johnson's baby for years (I used to struggle to find something that didn't set my eczema off. It's been gone for years, but I liked how my hair looked with those, so just kept using them). Anyway, they've stopped making the pink conditioner, and I really don't like the replacement. So I thought I was probably too old to use baby shampoo I'd try something completely different.

Also, I'm nosy and like to know what other people use, and this is an excellent excuse for it

Sorry sophie! But they are so good... I've tried a lot of cheap shampoos and hated them all except for Aussie - but as Aussie are now evil and poisonous I'm thinking I need to start budgeting for Aveda :)

sophie Naked did the same to my hair - maybe it's not great on fine hair. The only paraben/sls free shampoos I found that work for me are Aveda ones.

I wanted to love Naked shampoo but it turned my fine, colour-treated hair to straw. And Liz Earle is ok, but am starting to notice my ends are getting really crispy. Any recs from the Green People/Jason/natural SLS-free ranges?

On a lighter note though, I've also tried Rituals shampoo in the last week. It's not long enough of a test yet, but so far I am impressed. And it smells noticeably terrific.

This thread has made me remember the horrible scalp problems I used to have a child. I am wondering if it was due to the bargain bin shampoos I used to use. It was horrible. The only time it would get better if my mum forced me to wash it with prescription coal tar shampoo - and she would have to force me because I'd be about to suffocate with the smell.

My hair sounds similar to yours OP and I used Lush Big shampoo, never bother with conditioner (I never dry my hair). I had eczema as a child and dry skin now and it never aggravates. I occasionally switch and try another shampoo but always come back to it as it smells lovely and leaves my hair very shiny and manageable

The entire Naked range is amazing. No build up, no crap, just lovely. I have wavy, very long, thin but lots of it undyed hair. BBD + Naked = happy head.

Aveda shampure. I have an oily scalp and dry ends as well as sensitive skin (dry in places). This is the only shampoo at the moment that makes my thick hair look good. I can go for longer between washes too.
I used to use Kerestase which was excellent which I had to stop using after getting a dry scalp after backpacking in the heat for a few months.

Oh I hated Tresemme... Got sucked in by a free sample and when I first used it my hair looked good but the silicon build up was revolting half way through the bottle. Have since thrown it away and reverted to (expensive) redken.

Tresemme massive bottle of shampoo and conditioner which last me ages. Really cheap and the best I've ever tried.

Fine, flyaway brunette highlighted hair down to shoulder blades - I use Tigi S factor with good results, the sunflower oil conditioner is just lovely!

My hair is mostly grey so dyed, very thick and curly/frizzy. I've tried lots of different products and have had good results with Liz Earle shampoo and conditioner and Aveda Smooth Infusion shampoo, conditioner and serum.

Thanks Chocolate, I might try those then. My scalps not bad, but my face sometimes reacts badly, so I'll avoid the Aussie ones. My DSis uses Herbal Essences, but it makes me go very blotchy if I use it (although my hair smells gorgeous!).

Thanks chocolate! I guess they do make a big deal of their flowery ingredients - but no more than other brands like Herbal Essences do, which also contain all those nasty ingredients mentioned in the Wikipedia article but make out that the minute traces of organic oils they contain are the ingredients doing all the work . I expect someone will come along and edit that Wikipedia section soon so it makes more sense and has better references.

Oh yes and I didn't think the bit at the end made sense either- why does it matter if the stuff you test on animals is organic or not? Surely testing on animals is either good or bad depending on your ethical viewpoint not depending on whether the stuff's organic? However, the list of ingredients is right I think, and doesn't read too well to me

kezztrel I think it's because they market themselves as if they're a super wholesome natural type product. Yes SLS is in masses of stuff most people have in their homes. I think it's SLS my scalp objects to but hard to tell when you switch from something that has loads of chemicals to one that has very few.

I only just found that Wikipedia article myself, was wondering what it was that irritated my skin so much. Would never have bought it if I'd known they test on animals, must be more vigilant about that in future

I'm a bit confused by that Aussie Controversy section - I've heard (on MN) about the FD&C Yellow 5 ingredient potentially affecting fertility, but the fact that it contains parabens, sodium lauryl sulphate and is not certified as "natural" or "organic" is hardly controversial is it? Hundreds of cheap shampoos are the same aren't they?

Anyway, not trying to defend Aussie in any way, just can't understand that Wikipedia paragraph. I might change to just using Aveda from now on.
