Seem to have spent my adult life searching for this. But don't think I've ever repeat purchased - so any suggestions?

Am in mid forties with normal to dry skin. Don't want uber heavy coverage, but not sheer either. Both dewy and long lasting would be great but they don't seem to go together. Have pale/medium yellow-based skin tone. Would be prepared to fork out for the right product.

I've used Estée Lauder double wear for years but moved to bare minerals 2 years ago, took a long time to get used to and it's easy to put on and looks v.natural

to me worth ever penny if your willing to splash out! it makes you complexion flawless, I used it (when I can afford it) sparingly where needed and gives lovely coverage!

Bourjois in the bottle with the red top or clinique cc cream as a PP said - your skin sounds like mine, and that's what I use unless I'm using lily lolo.

Armani Luminous Silk is the business. For a really good every day foundation MAC Face and Body is also brilliant. It's what I use on most clients.

Thanks everyone. Tried to buy the Bourjois one today but didn't trust the colour match (and the patch inside my wrist that had looked best went a horrible orange 5 mins after I'd left shop) On rebound I bought a cheapie gel based stick from Maybelline that looked interesting and is right colour, but is horribly drying and ageing...

So no more self-service counter gambles. Will put myself in hands of counter ladies tomorrow. Have used some of your suggestions before - best I've tried to date is the Clinique Even Better so may return to this, if nothing else feels/looks right.

Thanks again for all the ideas and info.

YSL touche eclat foundation is amazing
I have tried loads and it's def the best ,long lasting and natural looking. It passes my x5 magnifier test. Most foundations are horribly visible up close but not this one.
I use a stipple brush for light coverage , but it's easy to build up coverage if you need to.

nomorebooze · 17/08/2013 08:25

another la prairie la prairie la prairie vote:) its flawless! and can be built up! pricey but lasts an age Brew

I use either Clinique Balanced Makeup in alabaster on "foundation days" and Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturiser in Fair on the others. Both nice.

Laura Mercier is £££ but, I've had it since November last year and its still going strong with very regular use. Not patchy like other tinted moisturisers I've used. Recommend +++

Am 51 now and am wearing LM in the profile pic on my own and the Clinique in the pic with my mum and sister (if you can see)!

Depends on your skin but using bobbi brown stick foundation too (great when on hol in Spain) and liked it.

But mines the holy grail search too....

May buy bourjois stuff and have a go , dd is loving l'oreal true match which is meant to be the cheap match version of YSL

purple15 · 18/08/2013 19:43

I have also use Estee Lauder double wear for years. Really good coverage, and you can only use it in the areas you need, and it last all day.

Definitely recommend it !

Crocodilehunter · 18/08/2013 20:04

I love MAC face and body foundation it's about £25 for 100ml and lasts forever, it gives a lovely dewy finish and I am forever complemented on it and asked what i use (not that it's noticable)
