I used MAC when i got married and it was great at lasting the whole day. My make up artist did it and introduced me to primers for the first time. Now, I always use a primer.

On the day, I used mac prep and prime for face although I have now switched to nars primer as I find it less chalky.

I still use mac prep and prime eyelashes (which are amazing for your eyelashes and make even the cheapest mascara look good. I also use mac prep and prime eye before eyeshadow and also prep and prime lip, which makes lipstick and lip gloss stay in place. You can see all these here.

Nars launched a new lipstick a few months ago called satin lip pencil. It is lovely and creamy and does not move the whole day. I use it over the lip primer.

Finally, I was introduced to nars larger than life long wear eye liner and I have never seen anything like it. It seriously doesn't shift and I tend to use oil cleanser to get it off.

Congratulations and best of luck!

The absolute best thing for me was Smashbox primer. My (mac) foundation and blusher were as picture-perfect at the end of the day as at the start. I also has Mac false corner eyelashes, which (once in place) looked and lasted far better than mascara.

CunningAtBothEnds · 11/08/2013 20:27

I went to benefit they did my make up then I just bought what they used, and had lash extensions. A good spray of hairspray holds it all together nicely just dont inhale! Grin

Get eyelash extensions done. They seem wierd at first, but god they look good in photos!!

Definitely primer, the urban decay eyeshadow primer is aces. Make sure you try colours on while wearing white, as it an make your skin a totally different shade.

Mac counter at a large department store is good bet.

Have you thought about having someone do your makeup? I know it may seem like a waste of money, but it is one less thing to worry about. It's quite relaxing really!!!

dobienutter · 11/08/2013 20:37

defo need to get a primer! not so bothered for false eyelashes I would be worried about finding them stuck on my cheeksWink
Fancies: did blusher last well?
Cunning : you mean hairspray on face? ive been told to spritz with evan sprayConfused hehe!

Its a looooong time since I was a bride, but for work I do events where I put my makeup on at 6am and won't look at it till 7pm and often don't have time to retouch before dinner - and have to look super smart all day.

Primer is key - I use L'Oreal studio, and an ELF eyelid primer (cheap and weirdly good). As I don't really like a matt finish, I use MAC face and body foundation (applied with a stipple brush), tarte blush stick, and MAC eyeshadow and eyeliner. Max factor lip stain pen or lipfinity .

MAC counters will do a makeover for you - I've heard some charge a fee which is refundable against purchase, but I've spent 30 minutes with them for nothing

dobienutter · 11/08/2013 20:41

a friend is doing my makeup! however I want to buy everything myself and she will apply it perfectly! live in sticks so not possible to go in-store on day! will possibly go to a mac counter for a trial:) Nars looks good aswell!

I love the natural look that try do on the Bobbi Brown counters, MAC always make me look too OTT. BB do bridal trials with the cost redeemable against purchase or if you don't mention bridal will mess about trying things on you for an age anyway! As for primer I second the smashbox one, its ace.

dobienutter · 11/08/2013 20:48

just found it on amazonBlush

I had Smashbox primer, Mac foundation, eyelashes, eyeshadow and blusher, and benefit lipstick with Lipcote on top. Apart from a lippy top-up, it all lasted from midday to midnight and looked completely fresh.

dobienutter · 11/08/2013 20:53

thanks SoYo: may look at bobbi brown again although I have found in the past there eyeshadows and liners don't stay put very well.... may be a lot better with correct primers.............! will take a lookGrin how do you find there lipsticks?

Yep hairspray, the cheaper the better! Tip from my sis but worked a treat!Wink

SoYo · 11/08/2013 21:24

I think the absolute best lipsticks are the Tom Ford ones but they're really pricey. There's some they sell in Space NK called Lipstick Queen that are great too. In Bobbi Brown I love the foundations, concealers, blushers and all the eye products except mascara.

dobienutter · 12/08/2013 09:12

thanks SoYo:)

Any other suggestionsGrin

I love the Daniel Sandler liquid blush - they last all day.

Tom Ford lipsticks are lovely, but I don't find them to be more long lasting than any other (high-end) lipstick. They wear nicely though and have one of the best formulas I've tried. Guerlain make lovely lipsticks too (Rouge G and Rouge Automatique).

Estee Lauder Double Wear Light is a nice long lasting foundation, and it doesn't cause flashback. It's sheer to medium coverage, which might not be enough?

If you're going for a waterproof mascara, I cannot recommend MAC - the mascaras flake and make the lashes really stiff. Not nice.

For primer, I'd go for Laura Mercier Foundation Primer (I use the oil-free one). If you have problems with oily/greasy skin, the secret finish (mattifying) product might be nice for you too.

I recommend that you ask for samples and test everything well before the big day. Also test if there are problems with flashback before the big day.

dobienutter · 13/08/2013 16:02

hi peeps, just bumpimg any more suggestions? especially vintage mid / dark pink lipsticks?

luvfizz · 13/08/2013 16:10

It's not just the product but the application that can help to maintain the look. Would you consider getting a make up artist for your special day?

SoYo · 13/08/2013 18:31

Right I've tried to have a think of a range of prices etc for each product that either I've tried and liked or others I trust have recommended.

Foundation:
Estée Lauder double wear
Bare Minerals
Bobbi Brown
YSL touché something

Primer:
Smashbox
L'oreal
MAC
Laura Mercier
Bobbi Brown

Concealer:
Bobbi Brown
Laura Mercier

Lipstick:
Tom Ford
Lipstick Queen
Revlon

Lip liner:
Estée Lauder
Rimmel

Eye liner. (Depends if you want thick/suble/kohl):
Benefit
Bobbi Brown
Rimmel
MAC

Mascara:
If you want waterproof etc there's one called Bliss that's American that coats lashes in little tubes that doesn't smudge and has good staying power, I used it for my wedding and I think there's some others that now use the same formulation - I'm sure someone will come along and tell you which they are
Max Factor ones are also very good.

Eyeshadow:
Bobbi brown
Chanel
Estée Lauder
Bourgeois

Hairspray is great for fixing make up.
Lipstick the best thing is to pencil the outline and full in with pencil in similar or slightly paler colour than the lipstick, put lipstick on, blot and then reapply.

dobienutter · 13/08/2013 20:10

wow thanks SoYo:) will be have a good look! eyeliner im thinking liquid liner i think......!

OP posts:
SoYo · 15/08/2013 21:47

Ooh the other thing is don't forget the eyebrows. Even if you don't normally do anything to them, a bit of powder or lightly doe pencil neatens and strengthens them and finished a face lovely.
