Nicest Jo Malone perfume

I have a birthday voucher for JM. I've always wanted one of their perfumes. Which ones should I look at- just to narrow things down?
Do JM fragrances really last? The only perfumes (not eau de toilette) that last on me tend to be heavy/ deeper fragrances, such as coco.

They don't tend to last all day I'm afraid; they are eau de toilette rather than parfum.

It depends what sort of scents you like. I like fruity so I love Pomegranate Noir, Lime Basil Mandarin, and Blackberry & Bay.

meep · 10/08/2013 08:01

I've just got English Pear and Freesia and reckon it lasts all day. even more so if you use the body lotion too. in fact some days the body lotion is enough on its own. I have a few Jo Malone's and this one definitely gets random compliments.

bruffin · 10/08/2013 08:12

I have pear and Freesia as well and it does last but it is very subtle to start with.

Dolallytats · 10/08/2013 08:13

I love lime, basil and mandarin and pmegranate noir.

CaptainWentworth · 10/08/2013 09:12

I love Red Roses- it smells so fresh and like real roses, IYKWIM. I wore it with her Orange Blossom on my wedding day and smelled just like my bouquet, it was lovely! I layered with the Red Roses body lotion and found that made it last, but a quick squirt of just the perfume in the morning doesn't really last all day; Orange Blossom possibly lasts a bit longer, and Pomegranate Noir (my winter scent) definitely does. I also love Nectarine & Honey- really fruity.

Actually I really like most of JM's scents as they smell of real things to me- most other perfumes give me a headache quite quickly. I would just go into one of their concessions and have a play!

buttercrumble · 10/08/2013 09:17

Pomegranate noir

AndTwoBits · 10/08/2013 10:54

I really like the English pear one too.

JennySense · 10/08/2013 11:55

Lime Basil and Manderin, the Orange Blossom one, Red Roses and the Earl Grey/Cucumber are my faves :)

TheFillyjonk · 10/08/2013 11:58

Blue Agave and Cacao is gorgeous and a bit more of an oriental scent, if that's what you like. The peach one is so delicious I wanted to eat my wrist when I had it on!

The ones in the black bottles, the more intense scents, last forever and you only need a tiny bit. The rose based ones (I think one is called Velvet Rose) are beautiful but more classic than Red Roses.

Claxonia · 10/08/2013 12:40

My favourite is Nectarine Blossom and Honey. I wear it almost everyday, it doesn't last very well though. I would say the fragrance lasts better with the body cream in the glass jar than with the cologne. Colognes that last better are Pomegranate Nour and Blue Agave and Cacao. Next on my list to buy is the Iris and Ginger one.

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 10/08/2013 13:11

I like the Lime Basil and Mandarin but it's very light and doesn't last long.
My DM bought me Plum Blossom which I find a bit too sweet - but I now layer it with the Iris & White Musk Intense and love it, it's just a really clean, fresh smell, and lasts longer.
Not sure I'd say it lasts all day though, but, like someone upthread, I get a headache and blocked nose from most perfumes. I wish I knew how to recreate Chanel no5 < wistful >.

Mummyoftheyear · 10/08/2013 13:26

Ooh - I am salivating reading all of the names. I now need to convince my husband that we need to go there tonight (late night shopping centre). Lol
How much are the black bottles (ones that last longer).

I layer lime, basil and mandarin shower gel and body lotion with pomegranate noir perfume. Blackberry and bay is lovely too.

Roshbegosh · 10/08/2013 13:31

The trouble with the intense ones is that you have to buy 100mls and even if I love the scent I am sick of it by the time I have used 100mls so I now only buy the small bottles. I like to have 7 or 8 of them so I choose one each morning, or two if layering, depending on my mood and what I am doing. I'm a big fan obviously but I am irritated by the lack of choice in sizes with the intense ones.

Roshbegosh · 10/08/2013 13:32

To answer the question above, I think the big bottles are £100 and small news are £39.

MrsBertMacklin · 10/08/2013 13:39

They don't last on me at all. They've got a newish range of 'intense' colognes, but the intense refers to the type of scents; they don't wear any better as they are still toilettes, nor parfum.

A lot of your questions will be answered if you look on the website, view the colognes by category, the descriptions are very good and there are always combination suggestions there which give you a good sense of what they're going to smell like.

What I would really suggest is just going to one of the stores and spending some time with one of the assistants, they will take you through every single perfume and combination if you want them to.

My longstanding favourite is Nutmeg and Ginger combined with Nectarine & Honey Blossom, but I also really like the new Saffron. Shame it's out of my price range, I just satisfy myself with popping into the shop to take another sniff occasionally.

LadySybilPussPolham · 10/08/2013 13:39

DH has just started wearing Lime Basil & Mandarin; it smells great and I can still pick it up when he gets home after a long day. I do have a bloodhound nose though!

YoniAsOldAsYoFeel · 10/08/2013 13:46

154 cologne is nice and quite leathery

Mummyoftheyear · 10/08/2013 14:15

Really lovely and helpful advice. Thanks all!
Think I need to buy more than one. May be my new 'thing'!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 10/08/2013 15:56

I put my combo on after posting at 1.15 (Plum Blossom & the Intense Iris one). I can still smell it on my wrist but it doesn't give me an 'aura' any more iyswim.
Maybe I should get some of the body lotions, although I prefer oil on my body really. Could try adding it to my argan oil I suppose - wonder if that would work?

littlemissnormal · 10/08/2013 16:02

I wear the lime and basil but I love the blackberry and bay.

jamster66 · 10/08/2013 16:09

Lime Basil and Mandarin - wear it every day. Everyone always comments on it - it's lovelySmile

Elsiequadrille · 10/08/2013 16:10

Pomegranate noir and Blackberry and Bay are my favourites.

bohoec · 10/08/2013 16:17

Another vote for Blue Agava and Cacao here. I find it last a good while - not all day though (never had a perfume that has!).

You could always opt for some candles / home scents if you'd rather stick with the perfumes you know and love.

I would go and see if you can blag a couple of testers to try them out.

Pixieonthemoor · 10/08/2013 16:24

I love the Lime Basil and Mandarin but it made the skin on my neck go weird - like massive goosebumps and a bit itchy. Was really Sad as its a gorgeous smell!
