I want an Anne Hathaway crop

JemimaMuddledUp · 09/08/2013 19:02

Am I mad?

I currently have a long bob with a fringe (picture on my profile, although have lost weight since that was taken and my face is a bit thinner now). I really fancy having it shorter, something like Anne Hathaway's longer crop. Do you think it will suit me?

DH likes the idea. DC are horrified, but they always are when I change my hair. They'll get used to it.

The DC have an appointment at the hairdresser's tomorrow with the stylist who also does my hair, I'm going to have a chat with her about it.

Go and try on a wig first.

Personally I don't like it. When you get old, having shorter hair is inevitable, why do it when your young and can have long hair?

Only once in my adulthood did I have short hair and I hated it.

BUT, it may suit you and it will grow if you don't like it!

JemimaMuddledUp · 09/08/2013 19:24

The trouble is, I'm not that young and my hair isn't in great condition. No matter how I style it it seems to get messy within 5 minutes. So I give up and tie it in a boring ponytail.

I'm hoping that shorter hair might be easier to look after and not look shit all the time.

I can't see your profile at the mo as am on phone so this won't be hugely helpful but just wanted to say that I would love to cut my hair this short so reckon you should go for it!

I have quite a short cut at the moment but not brave enough to go for the pixie crop as I have chubby cheeks so it prob wouldn't flatter me but I love how it looks on other women and can only dream of how easy it must be to style.

Talk to the hairdresser tomorrow about it, they'll be able to advise if it will suit your face shape and maybe suggest an alternative if they think it won't suit.

Long hair isn't for everyone, I REALLY don't suit long hair and my nice, thick, shiny hair goes all limp and thin whenever it gets to a certain length so I keep it short and it looks much better, IMO.

If all else fails, it'll grow!

cocolepew · 09/08/2013 19:46

Yes it would be lovely, all the best people have this style Grin

I have a face like a hanster storing food in their cheeks and most people prefer me with it short.

ninah · 09/08/2013 19:50

I think it would suit you. I did this a while ago and had loads of compliments. Change is good!
I don't agree that shorter hair is inevitable as you age, either.

RayofSun · 09/08/2013 19:53

Can't see you photo but wax having the exact same conversation with a friend about the same style. An planning it at my next hair appt on 20th August. Can't wait!! Good luck if you go with it!!!

Chubfuddler · 09/08/2013 19:56

Short hair is not inevitable as you get older. My hair is the longest it has ever been.

Be cautious. Really cautious. I would actually consider buying a wig and trying it out for a few days. Short hair is incredibly unforgiving to the face and requires far more care and styling to look good. If you genuinely have Anne hathaway's bone structure go ahead.

Chubfuddler · 09/08/2013 19:57

And yes it will grow out again but very slowly.

Chubfuddler · 09/08/2013 19:58

I hadn't looked at your photo when I answered.

I wouldn't. I have quite a round face too and I looked AWFUL with a crop like that.

docket · 09/08/2013 20:02

I think that style looks good on only a few people. I may be biased though as I had a crop and looked awful and found the maintenance v taxing. I second the wig suggestion.

JemimaMuddledUp · 09/08/2013 20:18

Well I think it is safe to say that I don't have Anne Hathaway's bone structure, but as I say my face is quite a bit thinner now than it was in that picture and I have more visible cheek bones.

It's your hair. I just wouldn't.

Sorry.

JemimaMuddledUp · 09/08/2013 20:21

Those of you who have had short hair, does it look very different to when you have long hair tied back? I mean, in terms of making your face look fat etc.

I have hair that many people would regard as very short - think around 3 inches at its longest. I love it and it takes years off me; I just don't suit long hair and I haven't had long hair since I was 12. Getting ready in the morning is a breeze as regards my hair Grin I also have had loads of compliments since going really short; "chic" is a term I've heard more than once, to my total astonishment as I'm not someone who would ever describe herself thus. (Though I was also referred to as a "fucking lesbian" by some troll in Tesco Hmm)

However, I have quite a long face with decent cheekbones (about the only good thing that can be said about my face) which is why long hair is very ageing to me. My hair is thick and slightly wavy too, which helps the style.

I do, however, have to keep well on top of my crop. A trim every 4 weeks. If it gets longer it starts looking much less good.

Maybe try a wig out and see what you think? Or discuss it with your hairdresser, if you really trust him/her to advise you impartially?

cocolepew · 09/08/2013 20:57

If you keep the layers on top long, like in the picture and you hate it it doesn't take long to grow down. I had shoulder length dark hair three weeks ago and now have a blonde crop.

GobblersKnob · 09/08/2013 21:08

Feck it, just try it, it's only hair, it grows. It will either look brilliant, or erm not so brilliant, but at least you'll know.

I have spent my whole adult life going very short to very long and everything in between, and by very short I mean about a cm and a half, down to about tit length. But then my hair grows stupidly fast. It is just past my shoulders atm and I am thinking of getting it all lopped off as I have been using henna for a couple of years and want it cutting out.

So not only am I going to have short hair, I am going to have short grey hair, but I think it might look good. If not, I'll grow/dye it because it is, only hair.

SunshineBossaNova · 09/08/2013 21:26

I say go for it. I'm in my 40's and have an asymmetric crop with long layers on the top and it's fabulous. I don't have to style it unless I really want to, it looks great if I just drag a comb through the long fringe.

I tried growing my hair out this year and my hair looked lank and miserable. Short, my hair looks thicker and shinier and isn't a faff to dry.

aftermay · 09/08/2013 21:31

Coco - are you in London, or at least your hairdresser?

shopafrolic · 09/08/2013 21:36

I love my short hair. So easy to manage. Definitely works on thicker hair too. The one thing I would say is short hair means you need to wear make up more often. Go for it! It'll grow back if you don't like it. Aftermay my hairdresser is in London if you're looking for someone.....

aftermay · 09/08/2013 21:43

I'll PM you.

biryani · 09/08/2013 21:44

I'm not sure I'd go quite so short, but I think with a bit of height on top and some chopp iness round the face, you'd look great.

WandaDoff · 09/08/2013 21:44

I am going to get my hair cut short tomorrow if I don't bottle out

I've got hair halfway down my back & have been so hot this year that I just want to chop it all off.

I have quite a round face too, & I'm quite fat, but I have been convinced by this blog.

Treaguez · 09/08/2013 21:47

You have a lovely face and a great smile Smile

I think you need to a) get some layers, and b) not have the 45 degree angle between fringe and hair, which is quite unforgiving on anything but the most gamine and delicate features.

That is not the best photo of Anne Hathaway that you've linked to Grin but that's by the by, I think you should just go for it and the beauty with a style like that is that it grows quickly if you don't like it, and also you can style it in a few different ways.

WandaDoff · 09/08/2013 21:53

Ooh I can do photos (I think)
