Help! My skin is falling off!

Literally. And yes, it is as disgusting as it sounds.

I am currently on medication which, hopefully, I will be off by Christmas. Hopefully. Within the first two weeks my lips became corpse-like and ever since my face (and now entire body) has become dry and peely. I can't wear makeup because it flakes off. With my already pale skin, I look like the walking dead!!

I recently purchased Eucerin Aquaphor for my lips so they are on the mend, but I desperately need some heavy duty moisturiser to sort out the rest of me. I have tried E45 and Palmer's but neither are doing much. I have resorted to using dd's Johnson's baby oil.

Any recommendations of moisturisers/lotions which can help desperately dry, flaky skin would be much appreciated. The medication I am on has closed the oil glands in my face, so do I need to slather myself in more oil?! Help!! Sad

Hello,

Poor you!

For your face - Caudalie Vinosource range or Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream are good.

For your body - Rituals Moisturising Cream Bath or L?Occitane Almond Shower Oil. For a body moisteriser Avene Cold Cream should help.

Hands - Caudalie, Clarins La Roche Posay.
Dry nails -Nail strengtheners -Sally Hansen or Dr Lewins Renunail (my personal favourite), Dr Hauschka Neem Nail Oil for hydrating cuticles and rid of crackly skin.

How's your hair? Philip Kingsley Elasicizer, Ojon Rare Blend Deep Conditioner, both great.

Hope that helps!

You poor thing Sad

Pure shea butter would be my first try.

La Roche Posay cicaplast might help. It's a repair balm. I really rate it on irritated skin. You can get it from Boots

Body Shop Hemp range is excellent on dry flaky skin. The body butter is currently half price (£6.50). I had a reaction to something a few weeks back which made my face v. Dry and tight and a combination of E45, Hemp cream and Lanolips ointment sorted it out. La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume is also great too.

Coconut oil is fantastic on everything. I use it on hands, hair and body. I use it on still wet skin when I get out of the shower.

Most moisturising cream I have found for my face is Jurlique moisture replenishing cream. Call them up and ask for a sample. Their number should be on Jurlique.co.uk
They have always been really helpful when I have called them. My skin is very dry and sensitive and while this cream has essential oils it, it has been no more bothersome to my allergic, rosacea ridden face than fragrance free stuff. Worth a try? Samples are usually free. They sent me a body moisturising cream to sample rrecently but I can't comment on that as I've not yet tried it. Give them a ring and keep us updates!

I'm another devotee of Caudalie, here are some alternatives:

For your body:

Dr Organic Vitamin E body lotion

Weleda "Skin Food"
Weleda "Wild Rose Body Oil"
Weleda "Wild Rose Facial Oil capsules"

For your face:

Neal's Yard "Frankincense Nourishing cream"

Guinot "Crème Nutrition Confort"

Dr Organic Vit E face cream

I would also recommend Extra Virgin olive oil - add a few drops to each bath, or apply all over while in the shower.

And avocado oil for your face, use at night. (You can buy it in Decleor Angelique serum but that's £30). (If you have oily skin you could try jojoba or coconut oil as they are lighter).

You can also use hot cloth treatment with olive oil if your face gets very dry. Massage olive oil into your face, then soak a face flannel in hot water & put it over your face for a couple of minutes. Finally, gently dab off the oil with your cloth.

I get very dry skin in the winter & the olive oil treatment plus avocado oil turns my skin round immediately.

E45 cream & Aveno cream are recommended by doctors for dry skin but they are paraffin based & can irritate the skin.

PS For your lips try Burts' Bees paraffin free lip balm.

I used to have dry flaky skin on my nose periodically ( and it was so peely that I couldn't wear make up as it only made it more noticeable). Someone on here recommended Eucerin and it has solved my problem. I only need the tiniest amount so my tub will probably last for years. I have the 5% urea replenishing cream.... I have been using it at least six months and it barely looks like I have touched it. If I stop using it though the flaky skin comes back within a week.

Some good suggestions here, hope you find something that works for you Flowers
