Very surprised by Alexon! Work clothes related.

Alexon is one of those brands I always considered 'genteel lady' iykwim, flowery skirts and fascinators, which is not me Smile

However I was trawling the shops for clothes for the office and House of Fraser had a big rack of mixed up sale stuff. I got really nicely cut 7/8 length trousers for £29 and a lovely berry jersey top for £19. There was also some really nice soft jersey dresses so I might go back tomorrow and try them on.

Blimey, thanks for the top tip! (Although I'm slightly worried that if I like them too, this may be a sign of age... )

WildThongsHeartString · 09/08/2013 13:46

edam Grin I know! Country casuals and Dash await.

I hesitated before posting and then I thought fgs it's only a brand, as long as the clothes are nice what does it matter?

I have seen some Alexon dresses for work before on here and bought them, been very surprised each time as I associated it with genteel old lady.

edam · 09/08/2013 13:51

Wow, CC and Dash worth investigating too? Always wondered why my Gran ended up wearing such hideous clothes when pictures show she was rather stylish in her youth - now I'm beginning to worry that somehow my tastes are developing in the same direction without me realising!

Arisbottle · 09/08/2013 13:52

I have a red county casuals dress for work which is far from frumpy. It is the know thing I have ever bought in there.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/08/2013 13:57

I saw a really lovely top in there a few weeks ago, after trying to help somebody find a dress on here. Unfortunately, it was dry clean only, so I didn't bother.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/08/2013 14:00

Just had a quick look - there are some very, very bad things on there in awful colours, but this dress and this top are lovely.

WildThongsHeartString · 09/08/2013 14:05

Yes, it is very mixed but agree there are some gems.

ooh that dress is nice. Am I brave enough to start buying from Country Casuals, though, or will it start a slow decline into M&S comfy beige slacks with an elasticated waistband?

WildThongsHeartString · 09/08/2013 14:11

I noticed if you buy online at Alexon or through HoF you get an extra 10% off and free delivery going through Quidco. What's there to lose?!

WildThongsHeartString · 09/08/2013 14:11

Correction 10% cashback

I got two great cocktail dresses in the sale for £80 - they are far from "old lady" (I hope). I also got a couple of tops. I think Alexon are actually turning themselves around.

lurkingaround · 09/08/2013 15:30

I agree!! I have ssen a few things and surprised myself! Then I wondered was it my ahem advancing years. Grin

Love those links Remus Lovely dress, if I were slim hipped

WildThongsHeartString · 09/08/2013 21:40

Lovely top as well

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/08/2013 21:40

Sadly they are both dry clean only. I'd want them to wear for work, so dry clean just doesn't work for me.

WildThongsHeartString · 09/08/2013 21:53

Would be tempted to try a cool handwash myself, cotton elastane mix should be ok?

OP posts:
VeryDullNameChange · 09/08/2013 22:02

Ooh, quite fancy some of those, but can't really justify splashing out on dryclean only cocktail dresses - might try some of the wide legged trousers for work though. What possessed them to produce all those bile green/yellow abominations?

helzapoppin2 · 10/08/2013 09:08

Kaliko is the younger version of Alexon and worth a look.
I got some "everyday" stripey tops from Dash yesterday which are great quality. I've been avoiding them for years but thought I'd give them a try.
The good thing about all that group is that their sale prices get really low, you are getting really good quality clothes for a tiny fraction of the normal price.

edam · 10/08/2013 10:10

I work on a magazine and most of the readers are on the mature side. We aren't ever going to get any advertising from Rimmel, put it that way.

We did a shoot with some ladies who were all over 60.The stylist had brought loads of different outfits for them to try. And I started to get strangely drawn towards the cotton jersey dresses. Got chatting to the stylist, discovered which labels the dresses were, all going v. well.

Then I got back to my desk and thought, hang on, these were nice dresses suitable for ladies in their 60s... eek!

WildThongsHeartString · 10/08/2013 10:41

Good tip about Kaliko.
This website here seems to be an outlet for all these types of brands. Maybe they are all the same company?

Kaliko stuff comes up absolutely huge. I have tried to buy things in there a couple of times (mostly just plain jumpers, as a lot of the stuff is v not me!) but even the size 8s would fit three of me in. I'm normally a 12.
