Black cardigan help!

Can anyone help me find a decent black cardi? My ideal cardi would have/be:

  • plain black, no (printed) pattern (but a bit of texture in the knit ok)
  • long sleeves
  • long line, I.e. below bum not above, but not knee length type!
  • washable at home in a normal wash!
  • knitted type, doesn't have to be wool, but not flat jersey type
  • medium weight, not a huge chunky thing, nor a light weight summer thing (to wear to work over a dress or skirt and top)
  • to not have really tight sleeves, I am rather chunky of arm, size 20ish
  • to be no more than £35
  • no hideous buttons or zip up the middle
  • not a waterfall one where the front is longer than the back

My go to black cardi from last year is a few sizes too big now and I want to get ready for autumn as I did tend to wear it most days I wore a dress to work. Am I asking the impossible, or has someone spotted what I am after and could share a link?

is this the kind of thing you're looking for?

It's not my kind of style but M&S cardigans are actually good quality IMO compared to others in the same price range from elsewhere

Don't even consider Zara - very tight in arms and are crap after washing in my experience.

Try Woolovers. I can't promise machine washable in the normal wash though.

I think I shall have to visit a big m and s !

And I'd never heard of woolovers, liking lime of their cardis and v neck jumpers which are my other usual staple to wear with skirts/jeans. Last year got a few for a good price in sainsburys though which washed well!

You're probably best to order online and collect in store if ordering from M&S as its a nightmare to ever find anything in the shop. That way you can collect, try on in store and get an immediate refund if not suitable.

Best places M & S, bhs, topshop even asda

They do come up quite big but are fantastic quality for the price.

I went for the 2nd one that msWinnie suggested, size 20 was fine. Also got a £12 beige one from Tescos, between those two that's my autumn/winter cover ups sorted! (When it's very cold I have a school branded over the head fleece I can put on, not stylish, but great for break duties in the cold!!!)
