Presentable hair when your roots need doing

I have fine, straight, highlighted hair. Get colour done every 6-7 weeks.
Was due tomorrow but my hairdresser is off sick and I've re-scheduled for next Friday.
Next Tuesday I have an important work thing and I really don't know how to make my lank, rooty hair look ok. I've done crooked partings and messy buns for the past two weeks but it still looks shit.

Any tips on how to disguise/ work with my dark roots and scraggy dry ends?

Thank you

Hmmmm could you pull off a hippy look and put a scarf folded into a band over the front and tied at the nape then flowing behind you?

I found it impossible and in the end I gave up the highlights because I hated the in between look.

Hmm I like the idea MiconiumHappens thank you, and I have some small pretty scarves.
What would I do with my hair at the back? (It's just below shoulder length)

Try dry shampoo, will give it volume and if you get a coloured one (e.g for blonde or brunette) it might disguise the roots a bit, batiste original works for my blonde hair

Bit of height on the crown and then you have hardly any root showing at all. ;)

Thank you all.
Tomorrow I will sport an experimental, practice do of dry shampoo-ed, backcombed crowned, scarfed fronted wonder!
