help me sort my bumpy skin

I have such bumpy skin and its getting worse, please recommend something on a lowish budget. At the moment I just use an exfoliating facewash and an eye cream. I only really moisturise in the winter as it seems too oily the rest of the time. I know I am neglecting it but scared to try new things after a few spot problems using new things in the past. Please help its starting to be very noticeable.

Clean and Clear exfoliating wash has worked for me.

Thanks I use the blackhead one maybe switching to the normal one would work better. Can anyone enlighten me as to what they are, as they aren't spots just bumps?

Definitely moisturise every day, oily skin can get dehydrated and that can make the bumps worse.

I would also avoid exfoliating every day as this can make oily skin oilier. Try a wash for sensitive skin and follow with a light moisturiser.

Exfoliate once a week with a non granular exfoliant.

I don't have the same problem, but have been washing my face with a microfibre cloth every night and it's really smoothed out my skin. You don't use any 'drying' or 'blocking' products, just water and the microfibre. The finer the better (I checked a few out in Tescos and got the finest one!). You can get a special one for the face but it's quite pricey. I like to do it this way so I have 3 and can wash them regularly.

I had the same problem and a facialist told me they are blocked sebum pores quite deep in skin. Essentially what she said is dry top layers are not being removed and oil can't escape so it's trapped under the dry layers.

On her recommendation I ditched my previous skincare regime as she though it was too harsh and may make it worse. I was using Liz Earle which I thought was gentle but apparently the aromatherapy oils are harsh.

I now use Dr Jart V7 wash with St Ives warming scrub afew times a week. When iI wash I also steam face with a hot cloth to open pores and soften the top layers.

I then always moisturise and at night use either origins drink up intense or coconut oil for extra moisture.

I noticed a difference after a few weeks of this regime.

Hot cloth cleansing has made my skin far less bumpy. I use Superdrug Vitamin E, but I think it is the method rather than the product which makes the difference IYSWIM. I moisturise morning and night too, strangely if I don't moisturise my skin seems oilier.

Are you also inclined to be a bit red? May be rosacea if so, that can involve bumps. I do hot cloth cleansing and am careful about using harsh products and essential oils that trigger the dreaded mites (warning: googling rosacea is a gross experience) but I still get the odd bump. Looks like it's going to be a spot but then never gets there IYKWIM.

I had bumpy skin, but as I've been fasting when I break fast I've been drinking ten glasses of water a night & eating lots of fresh fruit & watermelon. I have the softest smoothest skin, do you drink enough water? I think I just wasn't for years!

Thanks MBL No redness at all so don't think its rosea, worst area is my temples for some reason.

Definitely don't drink enough water, force myself to drink one a day whoops. Rest is tea and coffee. Have got away with it for years but looks like its all starting to catch up on me.

Yes hugoa I think that's what they are.

Just looked up milia on Google images, don't think it is that as they're not white, same colour as the rest of my skin..

OP, google Caroline Hirons blog BeautyMouth and have a read( particularly skincare routine cheat sheet). She does talk about a lot of expensive products but you could take the principles of what she's saying and work with cheaper products. 3 weeks ago my forehead was exactly as you describe, really bumpy, and skin looking greasy and dull. Since following her cleanse/cleanse/tone/tone/serum/moisturise routine I have only two small bumps left and skin is looking better than it ever has. I think I was not getting my skin properly clean before or giving it enough moisture and hydration because it was oily and I avoided over moisturising. Worth a read anyway!

Boots outlet shops are a great place for products that would be much more expensive in the 'real' boots. I have got serum and all sorts from here at fraction of price.

This morning i have used my new facewash and moisturised...off to get a glass of water now!

Could be keratosis pilaris. Little skin coloured bumps on face and/or upper arms and thighs. I have this, and the most effective things I've found are:
Exfoliating every day
Using a light moisturiser (not too heavy as this can block pores especially on face)
Omega oil supplements
Eucerin moisturiser with urea when it's really bad
Sunshine!

Having said that it seems to have got a lot better as I've got older.

Just as an update and a big thank you, my skin is looking so much better, bumps are much reduced and smaller, not entirely gone but on their way.

I have stopped exfoliating daily, have started using a facewash, the Superdrug Vit E hot cloth cleanser and moisturising daily.

I think it was from clogged up pores, which are now unclogging thanks to the new regime.
