Has anyone seen any nice dresses or skirts for AW suitable for SAHM?

I have been mostly wearing skinny jeans and jumpers for the last few Winters but am a little bored of this look now.
I am after a dress or two or possibly a skirt and a dress.

I need something that works for days at home with the children.
Fitted style
Neutral colour, maybe navy or grey, maybe even red. Could be floral or some sort of subtle pattern but not too Bodenesque!
The sort of thing that can be layered with a top underneath and a cardigan over top.

Was wondering about some sort of pleated skirt but no idea where to look.
Knee length or just above/ below.

Has anyone seen anything like this or alternatively if you can give me some inspiration for AW outfits not involving jeans that are comfortable and work for running around after small DC but also attractive and stylish that would be great.

The skater skirt is now out of stock in a 14. I choose to blame you lot. Oh well am supposed to be having a no spend August.

Not guilty.

Love 2 of the Jawger dresses, but not sure as only L available and I am a 12-14 , in dresses often a 12, L is going to be too big isn't it ?!

QueenCadbury · 04/08/2013 18:51

remus you're way cooler than me even if you do look like moaning myrtle Grin. I just wouldn't be able to pull off a skirt, biker jacket and boots.

If you're not into earthy and worthy then have a look at desigual. Lovely prints in jersey skirts and dresses. TBF the fabric and construction aren't that wonderful and you'll wonder why they're so dear, but the clothes wear pretty well and are effortless to wear and fabulously fun . They are also unmistakably desigual which might put you off a bit!

:) I am far from cool - I aim for cleanish, tidyish and quirky-ish and usually manage one out of three and perhaps two on a good day.

LadyMilfordHaven · 04/08/2013 19:15

I've bought it. In a 12 though.

LadyMilfordHaven · 04/08/2013 19:16

You'd wear a biker jacket to school Remus ?!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/08/2013 19:17

I would - a fabric one. But tbh I was talking about how I'd wear the skirt casually. I'm going to try the red one on - have had my eye on it for ages but it's never there when I look in store.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/08/2013 19:18

I'd wear this sort of thing to work

LadyMilfordHaven · 04/08/2013 19:20

Oh yes they look terrible on my embonpoint

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/08/2013 19:21

Buy small and v fitted and never fasten.

Oly4 · 04/08/2013 20:14

Parmarella, yes a L will be too big for you. I just bought a gorgeous Jaegar dress in the sale. I'm a 12 top and a 12/14 bottom and the M is fine. Tried on L and it was massive. I love Jaegar quality!

madmomma · 04/08/2013 20:17

Hi scraggy a lot of my dresses are from brora (in the sale), cos I like that quintessential english-rose kinda business. I've had some fab ones from ebay too - 2nd hand really works with a tea-dress for some reason - they're quite nice with a 'patina'. The odd one from peacocks, a couple from miss selfridge and a couple from oasis. The jaegar website had a lovely one in black + white for about £45 yesterday, but typically I've lost my debit card. Grrrr!

Chubfuddler · 04/08/2013 20:51

WHY did I click on that jaeger outlet link. God I could buy the lot.

scraggydoodledo · 05/08/2013 15:31

QueenCadbury- I would wear it with a fitted t shirt of jumper plus boots. I think it is potentially quite a versatile skirt and could be dressed up and worn with heels. I'm no where near cool enough for biker jackets either :)
My only slight concern is that it is 100% polyester and TS isn't always great quality.

madmomma- Brora dresses look lovely but maybe a little bit too hippy. I'm a bit loathe to try them as you have to pay delivery and returns.

I will try one of the Jaegar dresses (would have tried more but lots sold out in my size). I have also spotted a dress on the Jigsaw website that I really like the look of and may try too.

Many thanks again.
