red lipstick - why cant I get it right?

I really want to wear red lippy with a new red dress but every time I try it looks like I've got false lips on!! I usually wear a rosy pink liner and gloss and have dark hair and v pale skin. Im 40 ish. Is it really so difficult?!

That's funny, it doesn't look at all purple on me, just a muted dark red. Skintone makes a massive difference to how reds look I think. Lady Danger looks like a true red on a friend of mine, but like horrible bricky orange on me.
