Bra Guru's help this girl!

A shy younger relatives' Mum has asked me to help her to see whether her daughter need a bra or not. I've managed to get near her with a measuring tape and as per normal MN measuring she's 32 round the bottom but wouldn't let me measure her cup size bent over but she was 37 inches around whilst standing up....she was only wearing a soft croft top though.

She's still at primary. Could she be around a 32DD already?

Sounds like she could be that at least. I'd suggest trying that and maybe a cup size up if not more just to be sure. I'm by no means an expert though so hopefully one of the more experienced ladies will come along soon to offer some advice

Thanks. I'm a bit shocked really. She's hiding under layers though! She only wants a sports type crop top still though.

If measuring is this hard then bra shopping may be a nightmare!

i think, though as I said I'm no expert, that if she's measuring like that already, then she really needs a properly supportive bra. Perhaps someone could recommend a sports type bra that she might find more comfortable than an underwired one? If she's embarrassed or overly conscious of her size as it is, it might help to get her a minimizing bra of some kind though I'd be wary of sending out the message that there's something wrong with her developing body IYSWIM?

Right...finally got her to hide in a corner whilst I measured with the numbers of the tape from behind type thing.

I got 32 and 38 .... I assume making her a 32E?

32E sounds right based those measurements but it's always wise to try at least a cup size up and down as some people measure bigger or smaller than they actually need! sounds bizarre I know but it's apparently true

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/08/2013 20:00

Yup, start her with a 32E but you will need to try sizes around too. ALthough if she is only in soft cup sports bra styles this will make things a little easier as the size isn't as definite.

Now, with sports bras some run tight in the back. You might want to order the same ones in a 32E and 34DD purely because of this

If this is definitely what she is after would any of these work?
simple
not sports bra but soft cup

Thank- you for your help. I tried her this evening in lots of sizes but a 32D teen bra seemed to be the best as she just didn't have the volume yet for anything else. Got her a few so will see how she gets on. Smile
