Dungarees are WRONG...aren't they?

Tell me they are.

I've seen a pair on the Next Directory site...and they've stirred something within me. I've never worn dungarees. I've never even worn Next. But I think I want them. They look so comfy and free and happy.

Tell me I'm wrong and I need to go and have a nice lie down.

oh my. Have just had a shudderfest, remembering a particularly lairy pair of > tie-dye ethnic dungys I wore when I was pregnant with ds1. My only defence is - I was 25. I though I looked pregnant in a funky kind of way. I probably looked like someone who got thrown out of her job presenting CBeebies because she got up the duff Grin

SenoraPostrophe · 11/06/2006 20:39

buy them, snafu, buy them. who takes style advice from a load of truckers on the internet anyway?

WideWebWitch · 11/06/2006 22:36

pmsl at this thread!

ShowOfHands · 13/06/2006 13:33

Andrea Dworkin! Thank you marthamoo, I have been trying to remember her name all day! See, MN useful not frivolous (are you listening DH?).

I own and wear dungarees. In fact, fmf I own a pair of patchwork home-made dungarees, even more ridiculous than tye-dye. But I am a lentil-weaving, festival-going, knit-your-own-porridge kinda gal. And I don't care about style, that much is blindingly obvious.

Iklboo · 13/06/2006 13:49

I just think dungarees = Dexy's Midnight Runners "Come on Eileen". Not for me. But then again, I'd look like a yokel Weeble if I wore them Grin

spidermama · 13/06/2006 13:50

Shock >> SPLUTTER!

blueshoes · 13/06/2006 14:39

god, no

FlameBoo · 13/06/2006 14:46

How come dungarees suited my pregnant step sister, but made me look like a pregnant porn farmer????

The stick thin 6 ft moggel also has a lack of norks.

Methinks I would have interesting bulges coming out of the sides of the flappy bit if I wore em Grin

Gingerbear · 13/06/2006 14:48

I had two pairs in 1984. Red striped and green striped.
Used to wear them at uni.
Everyone took to calling me Andy Pandy.
Have no idea why.

Gingerbear · 13/06/2006 14:48

Also wore DMs with them and a single CND earring.

Northerner · 13/06/2006 14:51

I had short dungarees as a youngster and would only fasten one button on the bib bit ala MC Hammer. Worn with one iluminous pink sock and one green.

Kathy1972 · 13/06/2006 14:51

Dungarees excellent for wearing when travelling by train when pregnant, as everyone can tell you're pregnant (because why else would you be wearing them) so you get a seat even in the most crowded of carriages.

If they're denim you can wear them with a little flowery headscarf and look like Felicity Kendal in The Good Life
(Well, feel like Felicity Kendal, anyway - the looking like was probably all in my mind Grin)

katierocket · 13/06/2006 14:54

My sister in law wears a pair with Winnie the Pooh on them....

Cappucino · 13/06/2006 14:55

I have my 1986 Miss Selfridge black dungarees for decorating

and I love them

I always think 'maybe I could retrain to be a painter and decorator and then wear them all the time'

in 1986 I used to wear them cinched at the waist with an elastic belt with a butterfly buckle

so flattering

tamum · 13/06/2006 14:56

I used to wear them at uni too. An ex-bf asked me why I always felt the need to dress like a flowerpot man :o

Gingerbear · 13/06/2006 14:58

lol tamum.
Cappucino - you can STILL wear dungarees from 1986! Envy I could probably get a single leg in my old pairs now (if I still had them)

bubblez · 13/06/2006 15:03

There is nothing wrong with dungarees.... They suit all types of looks Grundge, Punk, Skater kid, Arty farty (sos no other way to describe it) or my personal favourite the hip hop look... and I think that pregnant women look lovely in them.... Grin

Get yourself a pair snafu....

Cappucino · 13/06/2006 15:10

gingerbear they were massive... shapeless... hence the belt

serenity · 13/06/2006 15:21

I had a lovely pair of cut down dungarees that would have fit big daddy, I wore them with fish nets and a size 4/5 kids t-shirt I even embroidered 'the cure' on one leg (with lots of flowers and a snake or too iirc) Haven't worn them since I was pg with DS1, and became so stupendously fat Sad They are in a bag under the bed for nostalga reasons.

Snafu - order them, try them on, post a piccy and we will give you an honest, non p*ss take MN opinion.................Wink

Cappucino · 13/06/2006 15:34

snafu you go for it!

have just read your thread and the skipping about the garden with dirty hands sounds lovely

ignore these style police

they'd be too scared to break a nail to skip around the garden with dirty hands Wink

SoupDragon · 13/06/2006 15:36

You don't need dungarees to prance about the garden though.

SoupDragon · 13/06/2006 15:37

And you'll be banned from Waitrose.

dinosaure · 13/06/2006 15:37

I had some fab Calvin Klein dungarees years ago that I used to wear all the time with a vest top underneath. Loved them. And they did come in handy when I got pg with DS1.

motherinferior · 13/06/2006 15:38

You pinched my university ones, I bet, Dino.

dinosaure · 13/06/2006 15:40

mi I would hardly be able to get my big toe into your petite garments!
