I've been using YSL Le Teint Touché Éclat foundation for the last 6 months or so. Initially I liked it but I now find it very shiny after a few hours wear. I use it with Laura Mercier oil free primer which doesn't seem to help. It's almost finished so I'm looking for recommendations of what to buy next. Before YSL, I used Bobbi Brown and quite liked it. I think I've used the Chanel one too but I've never quite found the holy grail.

My skin's not great at the moment (which is a whole other thread) so I'm looking for a medium coverage I think, not too heavy.

Any suggestions very gratefully received!

I really like Guerlain Lingerie de Peau, it's hands down the best liquid foundation I have ever used. Have run out now though and am using Bare Minerals matte which I like but don't love.

I don't often use primer but the Guerlain looks lovely and can be worn without powder. It's pricey though - about £36 I think.

My favourite is Dior Forever. I have tried many different foundations but this is the only one that i will rebuy. Lasts for ages and looks great on.

The oil free primer from LM doesn't make my skin less shiny, but just makes the foundation last longer on the skin - I was instead recommended the Secret Finish - Mattifying to make the skin matte. And that really makes a difference.

My favourite foundation is Diorskin Nude.
I was given a sample of Estee Lauder Double Wear Light the other day, and I must admit that I'm quite impressed with that. That could very well be my next foundation purchase.

I've used 2 foundations from Bobbi Brown, and I honestly don't think they look as good on the skin as the Diorskin Nude and Double Wear Light.

Thank you for recommendations. I have never tried Guerlain or Dior foundations so will have a look at those. I think there is a lot of Mumsnet love for Double Wear but I've always thought it would be too heavy. I didn't realise there was a Light version. Lots of good ideas here that I hadn't thought of at all.

Vibe, thanks for the tip about LM primer. I'm disappointed with mine as its so highly rated but perhaps I'm just using the wrong formulation. Expensive mistakes to make!

I started using Boujois Healthy Mix Serum, following MN advice. It's absolutely great and whether it's coincidence or not, I've been told twice since I started it that I look younger! It's not too heavy and gives quite a dewy look - about £11 from Boots, so I think it's a real bargain.

Just reporting back to say that I now have three different samples of Diorskin Nude and Dior Forever in various shades. The Dior assistant took a lot of time to match up colours so I will try all of the samples. I also tried to get a Double Wear sample but they were out of stock of the little bottles so I don't have that yet. I have stored away the primer and serum recommendations for trying once I have chosen my foundation. Thank you all very much.

I have just ended a similar search. Thought the YSL one was going to be it but like you, it went shiny fairly quickly on me. Tried Diorskin Nude but ever time I put it on DP said how tired I was looking!!!! And it deep seem to give me this flat, ill look but was brilliant re anti-shine.
I am now v v happy with Estee Lauder double wear lite which goes on beautifully, makes me look glowy without being shiny, feels comfortable on my skin, has coverage you can build up and last really well.

cafenoir · 31/07/2013 22:58

Sorry, I'm tired! I meant it 'did' seem to give me not 'deep'!

I wear ysl and diorskin nude.

Both are great imo.

But I get a shiny nose with ysl by late afternoon whatever I do even with primer.

I need to try the bpurjois. Tis bargainous and often mentioned.

Another Bourjois Healthy Mix fan. I also like Healthy Mix Serum too. I've tries most of the ones listed above- BobbinBrown, YSL, Dior etc, but this is the only one that doesn't oxidise (turn orange as the day goes on) and looks great.
