I.m 35 and have recently aquired a love of vintage tea dresses and 40s style shoes and ol leather vintage bags. I have even started wearing my grans old cameo set and pearl necklace on occasion. Have also bought some lovely brooches.

I wear skinny jeans and nice sandals and other stuff to break it up, but I'm loving the 40's vibe.

Does this make me look like a twat? I have a small size 10 but busty figure and I'm 5'3", so love heels. I feel like a proper lady when I dress up like this and love it. I've read the boards and the whole stuff about saving things for best. Part of me thinks hell yes, lets wear it!

Worried that DP goes out with me and thinks wtf. Is it wrong to dress up when I feel like channelling my inner 40's pinup?

Can somebody advice me weather I'm just being an eccentric nob?

I heven't got any pics to post. The dresses aren't vintage, but quirky tea dresses and floral ones. People do look at me when I wear these garms with my 40s style shoes. They are either thinking wtf or she looks naice.

Btw, I do wear normal stuff, but get sudden vintage callings. I often have my vintage bags and jewelry though and nice little polka dot cardies.

Thanks for the compliment Buffy, also what do you wear? I'll try and get some pics. My friend's husband took some the other day when we were out.

Oh, go for it.

I'm 35 and almost all my clothes are from the 60s/70s.

I like the sound of your wardrobe!

OP I am in my 40s and also take the same approach to style as you describe. I love 30's & 50's vintage with a healthy dose of Celia Birtwell's 70s style. However I also have my "slouchy" days when I wear "Isobel Marant on the cheap" looks Grin

If people are looking at you they are either thinking "Wow" or they are surprised to see someone dressed in a distinct style when most people these days seem to prefer the "meh" approach to clothing!

I have to admit that today is a skinnies and t-shirt day. Most of my stuff is in the wash and I'm waiting for the sun tomorrow so it can dry outside. I'm also due to have a waxing next week and my legs are shocking. It's jeans until then!

i like the sound of it

I love the sound of your style! My friend had a hen do that had a 50s themed night, I felt so glamorous! It's not practical for me to do it everyday, but if you feel good, go for it!
For what it's worth, a girl in town the other week was dressed 40s style, tea dress, pin curls, stockings, flicked eyeliner and red lippy. She could have just stepped off the set of a BBC drama! I had to stop her and tell her how amazing she looked. Because she did! So if you feel confident, go for it. Grin

i expected you to be over 50 at least.
35 is young, don't waste it worrying about appropriateness.
vintage style can be applied well at any age, i think. maybe look for blogs run by people of a similar mind around this age bracket? there are tons of 'over 40' blogs out there (older than you of course but you get my point) where the women are sharing all manner of vintage outfit ideas.

i think this side of blogging is growing, too, so expect to see far more inspirational stuff from the over 30 crown in the future.

and it's all about how you carry it off.
someone much younger than you may look like a prat in same stuff. it's all relative.
