Greedy git dress disaster : are Spanx comfortable?

I've been on holiday and have eaten far too much so my beautiful dress for the wedding I'm going to on Saturday is too tight. It still does up and looks ok but won't be comfortable all day or to sit down in. Will a pair of Spanx help or are they horribly uncomfortable too?
Have been back on the 5:2 diet for a week and have another fast day before the wedding so I'm hoping I've lost a couple of lbs since I tried it on a week ago too.

Yes but be careful with what ones you buy as y first pair were high waisted pants. Going to the loo was very tricky. You need the ones with a pee hole.

If your dress isn't strapless, how about something like this?
I have two from Sainsburys in a slightly stretchier fabric and they are the comfiest holdy-in things I have ever tried.

That one looks good and is a lot cheaper than the ones I've been looking at in John Lewis. Does it suck you in enough? I need to lose about an inch from my waist I think.

It is very firm and certainly does the job at smoothing and holding in. I don't want to take large strides in it though! Certainly worth trying something like this.

If it's hot weather then shapewear will be unbearable! Really truly, it will be! Could you try cutting carbs til the wedding? A few days of low-carbing noticeably reduces my tummy (but I can never keep it up...!)

This seems a good price.
