Right, I bloody hate summer clothes

hunkermunker · 08/06/2006 21:57

I have a list of reasons I look bloody awful in summer clothes including eczema and general squashiness - do I have to buy that Cath Kidston teepee to look remotely summery or is there something I can do, short of...er...some mad head transplant surgery onto someone willowy?

Tiny, Floss? Dumpy, yes, but am sadly getting heftier of thigh and buttock by the minute (I know, because I'm eating iced gems atm Wink Grin Blush)

Now, Monsoon is V good imo, excellent and their sizes are very pleasing to me, I'm a size smaller in Monsoon than anywhere else!

Flossam · 08/06/2006 22:38

I find I am constantly struggling atm between dressing young and slightly skater ish/casual, and dressing old in an attempt to be sophistocated. I am at an awkward age really.

moondog · 08/06/2006 22:39

It's the post natal thick waisted look that gets me.
I have worked like a b*stard to get rid of mine (as www knows.)

WideWebWitch · 08/06/2006 22:39

So the M&S skirts are a No then? I have 2 hours to shop on Saturday and MUST buy some new clothes but I detest shopping and will have horrible time but must come home with work clothes, it's v depressing. Kaliko ususally suits me but even there this year isn't doing it.

WideWebWitch · 08/06/2006 22:40

Moondog, you have worked hard I know. I kept falling off wagon etc and so am still fat bastard.

moondog · 08/06/2006 22:40

Why don't you go the personal shopper route?
That is my plan (when i can break free of my lot for a day out alone in Chester or Manchester)

hunkermunker · 08/06/2006 22:41

I ahve a very small "frame" I suppose, but it's padded more than I'd like - hence the squashy bulgy look that is just SO devilishly attractive.

A personal shopper might snurk. I can't take that risk Sad

Flossam · 08/06/2006 22:41

Moondog, how long is a reasonable amount of time to have the thick waistedness? am considering buying a hula hoop in an attempt to banish the muffin top. If only I could stop eating them, and the coissants, and the chocolate, and the ice cream oh, and stop drinking the wine.... Grin

Hunker, yes you are tiny. And beautiful. Your DH is a very lucky man! Grin

WideWebWitch · 08/06/2006 22:42

I may call tomorrow, last time I rang John Lewis though you needed to book a long way in advance and I have to have stuff for next week. but maybe if they had appt for week after I could limp along with current clothes until then, it's a good idea.

Snafu · 08/06/2006 22:42

Oh blimey, if she's tiny and beautiful I'm not posting on her threads anymore Grin

hunkermunker · 08/06/2006 22:43

I'm really not, Snaf. Flossam must have been at the cherry brandy tonight Grin

Miaou · 08/06/2006 22:44

Is it just the top half that defeats you hunker? I have got postnatal handles too and I think we are about the same height (ie short). I have gone for linen mix trousers with drawstring waist, and those crinkly skirts that come down to the ankle. Neither need ironing, honest!

Top half wise I am no help though, am a little norker.

Flossam · 08/06/2006 22:46

What size jeans did you say you were in again Hunker? Oh yes a 10. Grin How many months post baby? Oh, yes, about 4 and a bit months. Hmm, point proven! Grin

And no, no cherry brandy, was at work till an hour ago! Grin

moondog · 08/06/2006 22:46

Flossam,I decided that if I still had thick waist (or 'extension on post namtal frumpy passport' as one MNer put it)by the time ds was 2,I would kill myself. Grin
(Not that I am shallow or anything, you understand)
Ds is 2 in three weeks and am wearing fitted sleeveless linen dress in a size 12 with reasonable confidence so I have called a stay of execution.
Still a way to go however....
Years od wild drinking, drugs and unsuitable men have taken their toll.

TheHonArfy · 08/06/2006 22:48

I hate summer clothes too, have no idea what to do with myself

however today I've been wearing \link{http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Per-Una-Pastel-Stripe-Patchwork-Panel-Skirt-Sz-10-R_W0QQitemZ9327914170QQcategoryZ53163QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem\this} which has been quite successful (not in that size I hasten to add) - and not HURRAH black or brown which is what I always end up wearing and looking hot and cross. There's hope for me yet

WideWebWitch · 08/06/2006 22:49

Arfy, I looked at the skirt and thought oh no, please don't let it be my (big) size and she's embarrassed to admit to it, but phew, it's a 10!

TheHonArfy · 08/06/2006 22:50

oh yes let me make clear I am Very Far from a size 10 Grin

Flossam · 08/06/2006 22:50

right, thanks then md! I have 5 months to go....i wouldn't mind so much if my boobs weren't small an now saggy. Sad

all4girlz · 08/06/2006 23:47

hunkermunker
I totally sympathise
eczma and squashy frame
--I have a problem with summer clothes too although am nearer an 18 than an 8 Ic am tallish with big feet I like the 3/4 pants but look like I am going sking when I put my trainers on!! sz9 feet.
Iwear shirts with a vest top al the time and feel dated but I am still bf and need two layers (one up one down ) for feeding in public

bloody hot though!!

Jellyfish · 09/06/2006 12:26

Oh forgive me butting in but could have been me posting HunkerMunker and ditto WickedWaterWitch.

I dread getting dressed during summer. (Sorry in advance if too much info.) Tall but have narrow Quasimodo shoulders, big norks (36DD before DD, now humongous 36G that flap down by my knees somewhere) with recently developed squidge-like tum (eating 5 meals a day with my toddler). No tops look right. Looks like I'm gestating a nest of voles down there despite correct corsetry. Not only do I give myself a black eye when I run, I give passers by one too. What's a girl to do? Advice please!! Low cut tops (Trinny & Susannah advise wearing these if big chested) expose my bad posture, and high cut tops awful with massive front. Help, pleeease. To add injury to insult, have skinny ankles but huge splayed feet so that any summer sandals I try on look like those of a Roman centurion. Some kind person out there, PLEASE help....any advice so much appreciated ..so depressing ... help!!

moondog · 09/06/2006 14:14

lol Jelly!
I think you need to start your own thread, girl.
This one has combusted in a mire of self hatred!

Mo2 · 09/06/2006 14:27

OK, today I am wearing \link{http://www.debenhams.com/jv/product_details_jv.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=9384925&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=7023785&bmUID=1149859447728#\this} with a dark green T-shirt, brown belt and open-toed sensible sandals from M&S (no flimsy flip-flops for me as I have my mother's hideous bunions Sad)
And some chunky jewellery...

Is that horrible??

(P.S. Size 12, though, not 20, as in pic!)

LadyCodofCOdford · 09/06/2006 15:01

big norks does not mean oyu haev to hate summer ime
