I want to got for a completely new hairstyle. I wanted to go for a punky style and dye it black. My hair is very shiny and straight, and a dark brown, with red streaks in the right light. Would I completely ruin my hair? Could I ever go back? Would a semi permanent be better ?

And is it really worth the hassle of redying when I quite like my natural colour? Grin

I just did the same!
I had dark brown long shiny hair with red tones in the right light.

I just dyed it nearly black and everyone has commented saying how good it looks, and suits me.

I did mine ombré before and it didn't look good.

So glad I went dark

Nah, you'll only potentially ruin your hair with bleach. Other colours are moisturising. It's very hard to go back to your original lighter colour though (if you choose to). Use Vaseline round your hairline and ears or be prepared to literally bleach yourself to get it off your skin!

I'm pillar box red and want to go back to blonde, a hair strand test using bleach didn't even begin to strip the red so it'll take at least a year of going dark and eventually lighter with highlights to get back to anything like my original colour so bear it in mind!
