Reworking a maxi dress

I have a maxi dress that I like - slim fitting, scoop neck jersey. It's a bit hot for the current ridiculous temperatures.

Would it work if I just cut it off a couple of inches below the knee? In the long length it's quite flattering, not sure about shorter.

Think it would work, aim for this length and it should look fine Smile

I think thats a great idea. The jersey probably wont ravel either

Thanks!

I like that Asos dress, maybe I'll order that instead..

I wouldn't, the good weather is about to disappear.

Don't do it! If you love the dress, you run the risk ofruining it. There are loads of cheap midi dresses in New Look and Primark for about £8, go and get one. You'll only wear it twice, markup words, so not worth spending or ruining. A dress for.

Hemming jersey is v difficult....have you done it before on a machine ?

HellonHeels · 22/07/2013 23:30

Thanks everyone. Food for thought. Maybe I'll go with getting a midi dress. I wasn't going to hem it - just let the raw edge roll into a little hem. Overly optimistic maybe.

Hmmmm....I have just bought a maxi dress in Monsoon sale with express intention of shortening it to below the knee. I feel rather like a (preggers) ship in full sale in a maxi...think I am too short. Do you ladies think it will work if I cut it off then take to drycleaners to have hemmed? My daughter is a dab hand on the sewing machine but as Drywhite says, hemming jersey is tricky.

Or even a ship in full SAIL. durr. too hot.
