Hi

Is it me or are they hiking up their prices

I am sure I paid 795 for my del ray last year and the new ones are over 1000 ?

Think it's a bit much

I noticed the oak bayswater is now £895 - that has definitely gone up by £100 in the last week or so.
I think the prices are ridiculous now. I doubt I'll ever buy another one and am seriously thinking of selling my Oak Bays as I paid considerably less than £895 for it

Allthingspretty · 20/07/2013 18:35

Yea I believe they have gone up. I think.price increases are yearly now

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 20/07/2013 18:53

I cant afford them now. The next bag I had my eye on has gone up by over £100 so I'm having a rethink.

Leedscatgirl · 20/07/2013 19:43

Yeh it's outta my price range now - it always kind of was but I did treat myself last year

Think people like Kate spade and Marc Jacobs look better value

I fell in love with Kate Spade bags when I was in Hong Kong years ago. Where can you buy them in the UK? I might need to revisit those lovely bags to replace my Mulberry obsession!
Which Del Rey do you have, I love the deer brown and the suede one that was in the sale.

MrsCampbellBlack · 20/07/2013 21:44

There was an article a while back which I read saying that they are concentrating on the overseas market, especially China. They want to compete with the big luxury houses apparently.

Crazy prices now and I don't really like the designs very much anymore.

MrsCampbellBlack · 20/07/2013 21:48

aha I've linked to it before.

And now their creative directer has left will be interesting what happens.

squalorvictoria · 20/07/2013 22:00

I paid £495 for my Bayswater five years ago.

So yes, they have, massively.

cardamomginger · 20/07/2013 23:51

There's a large Kate Spade shop in Covent Garden.

Vibbe · 21/07/2013 00:11

I've been a customer for many years, and before that, my mum was a good customer too.

I have however found that the quality is becoming worse and worse, to the point of it being ridiculous. If I buy a bag around £1000, I'd want it to last more than a season.

IMO the bags aren't worth the money. And the designs are boring. Some of them even seem to be heavily inspired by other brands.

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 21/07/2013 00:41

They've pretty much doubled the prices. I'll happily spend £500-£800 on a bag now and again but not £1,200 plus on a Mulberry. I really think uk customers will almost totally lose interest now unless sale reductions are vast. Lets hope Mulberry does well in Asia.....

swooosh · 21/07/2013 00:46

Most designers are doing it. I bought my Chanel bag for £1400 4 years ago and it's now five pounds under £3k. Madness!! I wouldn't pay that price now.

ToastedTeacakes · 21/07/2013 11:24

I'm always surprised by how item prices continue to rise up, but the quality of said items, nor the workers wages ever do. Hmm

santamarianovella · 21/07/2013 13:50

mrscb ,thanks for the link,i doubt they will find huge success in asia. LV,Chanel, and Prada, are still dominating the asian market.

almost every major brands has a price spike every year, brands like chanel and prada are very confident in their status,so no matter how much the bags cost, they will always have customers.
i cant see this happening to mulberry, the quality is not what it used to be,and most of the bags are manufactured overseas, so i think they may have lost their appeal.

primallass · 21/07/2013 19:22

Well I might have swung a Bayswater next year for my 40th, but at £500 not £900. I wouldn't pay that for it even if I could.

rosesandpirates · 21/07/2013 19:25

Yep they go up yearly! I wish I bought a bays when they were 500.

Allthingspretty · 21/07/2013 19:26

The sale is still on the Mulberry site so anyone wanting one should take a look.

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/07/2013 13:41

The most recent bag I bought was a Marc by Marc Jacobs one which I got a very good discount on.

Mulberry and Anya are now pretty much out of my budget. £500 is as much as I'd spend as I do get bored of bags.

And if I was spending c £1k I'd want a Chloe but really the ultimate bag I want is a Bottega Veneta which at least is made by craftsman in Italy so somehow to me feels its worth more than a mublerry.
