So I just measured by bra size and I'm shocked, is it right?

I measured under and I'm 34. Well I'm 33.5. That is taut, completely flat to skin.

When I do the lean over measurement (which made dh smirk) I measured 41inches.

Am I right thinking that makes me 34E?

I have teeny (saggy and deflated) bosoms!

Yup, you've got it OryxCrake Smile

Billstickers
Pollyanna was replaced with Faye, but they are quite a different fit. What are your measurements?

OryxCrake · 20/07/2013 09:26

Thanks, marriednotdead. Right, off to the shops on Monday...

sparkle12mar08 · 20/07/2013 09:48

Sorry, had to check out of the early morning shift to go do my run for the weekend! God I love these bra threads, as someone said - Changing the world, two boobs at a time!

pinkpiggy · 20/07/2013 10:10

Thank you! I have always worn a 38a so feel shocked i might actually be a totally different size! Will try

pinkpiggy · 20/07/2013 10:18

Can someone please explain this scooping action you are supposed to do? I don't have much to scoop but need to try on 34 FF (mind boggles)

sparkle12mar08 · 20/07/2013 10:24

When you've got yuor bra on, lean forward/bend over and taking your right hand reach around your left breast inside the cup to the armpit/back and pull all that flesh forwards into the left cup. Do the same again on the right breast with your left hand. Repeat both again to ensure all the migrated breast tissue is actually in the cups and not escaping towards your ribs and back. You should notice an immediate reduction in back fat if the band size is actually correct, and it will also be immediately apparent if your cup size is too small - you'll have quad boob all over the place. You have to be firm with scooping, especially if you've been wearing a vastly wrong size for many years. I find a quick scoop every time I go to the loo helps me keep nicely positioned all day and takes just seconds once you're practised at it. In many cases a bra that looks and feels alright when first put on, will in fact turn out to be a cup size or two too small once vigorous scooping takes place.

RedBushedT · 20/07/2013 10:27

I've been re-measured from a 34D to a 30FF but when I've tried them on they are absurdly uncomfortable and leave red marks around my torso. The back fat issue is horrendous too! This can't be right? I'm not particularly fat but this size bra makes me look awful due to being so tight.. What am I doing wrong?

sparkle12mar08 · 20/07/2013 10:37

It should feel firm but it shouldn't actually break the skin or cause bleeding. Some red marks are normal, it's like having sock marks for example - the band has to be firm enough and grip the torso enough in order to provide the support to the cups. Also it's normal to feel a little uncomfortable for a little while when wearing a completely different size because there will be fabric touching the skin in places where it previously hasn't. But that should go with a wear or three. When you scoop, what does the fit look like RdBushedT? It may be that you need a slightly bigger cup again, and that if the current one is still a tad small it's distorting the fit on the back. If you put it on back to front, can you fasten it and breathe in, and not pull it away more than an inch or so?? If so the band is probably correct - you shouldn't really be able to easily spin a bra round for example. All of that said, it's not unknown for those with very little padding on their torsos to need to size up a band especially if they're between band sizes, as there's little flesh to absorb the pressure. Sadly I'm not one of those lucky people, and I have to size down a band to get the grip and support I need!

Hi can you help me please? I'm currently wearing 34C (this was measured for me by someone when actually seemed to know what they were doing, as opposed to the likes of M&S) but I've lost some baby weight since then. I now measure 31/32 under, & 36/37 across. I wear my 34C on the tightest hooks & it's ok but there is no room to scoop as the cups are already full. Bra is still fairly new so it's not stretched. What size should I be in - 32D ? Or am I miles out. Thanks.

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/07/2013 10:56

Lego you're in between back size so try a 30E/F and a 32E/DD to start with. If your 34C is fairly full I'd tend to try the larger cups first

sparkle12mar08 · 20/07/2013 10:56

Hmm, you're between sizes all round so go through 32DD, 32E, 30E and 30F. I think the 30's will likely be a better fit, probably the 30F given that you say scooping has nowhere to go currently.

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/07/2013 11:05

Snap sparkle!

faulkernegger · 20/07/2013 11:14

Go to Bravissimo. They will fit/measure you properly. I found I was a 34FF and not 36D as I guessed for myself; my clothes all look so much better on and I rediscovered my waist!

Chigertick · 20/07/2013 11:15

So I looked at the blog and with my measurements of 31 under and 39 over I think I should try a 30F /30 FF - Is that right?
I too am amazed by this discovery! Smile

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/07/2013 11:27

try 30FF/G to start with, and maybe 32F/FF

Chigertick · 20/07/2013 11:32

Thank you - I've got a child free shopping day this week - I think I'll be mostly trying on bras Smile

mermaidbutmytailfelloff · 20/07/2013 12:17

So inspired by this thread I got out the tape and discovered that under bust is 33 and bending over dangly measurement is 39. I am guessing my 36c isn't the right size then? Guessing...I dunno 34 dd? Sounds ridiculous because I have no boobs to speak of....

Please help oh wise mums net....I would so like a bra that I can bear to wear and aren't counting the minutes till I get home and take it off.

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/07/2013 12:25

Mermaid try a 32E, 32F, 34E and 34DD

mermaidbutmytailfelloff · 20/07/2013 12:30

Thank you, am off to the shops having realised my current bra is shocking!

monkeyfacegrace · 20/07/2013 12:32

Right, off to measure...

monkeyfacegrace · 20/07/2013 12:35

Ok, 33" and 45". Go.

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/07/2013 12:39

try 32J, 32HH, 34HH, 34H as start points. The 32s are more likely especially with bigger norks. Better support :)

monkeyfacegrace · 20/07/2013 12:41

Thanks. Have all sizes between 30H and 36G here.
And Ive already had a breast reduction ffs Hmm

StatisticallyChallenged · 20/07/2013 12:51

:(

If you have any 32s, try popping them on back to front so you can assess the back without the too small cups getting in the way or distorting. You should only be able to pull the band a couple of inches max. That will at least narrow it down a bit for you

nextphase · 20/07/2013 12:53

Someone up thread asked about how cup sizes go - afaik, it depends on the brand. Some have dd, ee, ff, some dont, some have some and not others, so its a case of trying on a number of sizes in each style your interested in.

I was converted from the M&S measurement system after DS1. went from a 40D nursing bra to 34 EE normal bra, and instantly lost several kg in weight in appearances. Give the advice above a go. The difference is amazing.
