Work Clothes in this Heatwave

I work in an office and for the past few weeks have been in cotton tops and skirts in an attempt to survive in this heatwave.

I find it strange that so many office workers still wear their black formal trouser suits that they seem to live in all year regardless of the weather.

I was also amazed to see so many people at lunchtime - probably the hottest part of the day still encased in skinny jeans - phew!!

Why do people not dress appropriately for the weather anymore?

I am sure I am going to be shot down but couldn't resist lighting the blue touch paper

It;s because we're British and we will keep to our usual routines no matter what the weather hits us with lol

SanityClause · 18/07/2013 22:00

Some people dress far too casually when the weather is warmer. Low cut dresses and tops with bra straps showing, flip flops, etc.

Strangely, men seem to manage in a shirt and tie, but some women seem to think its appropriate to wear beach wear in the office.

I have no choice. Black trousers white shirt and tie - akl year round. With a jacket for when it's really cold. Its horrible.

They probably work in offices with arctic air conditioning. I do, and I have aircon in the car. I wear a cardigan in summer because the office is so cold.

I only have a small work appropriate wardrobe at the moment (it happens to be maternity clothes) so even though I'm hot I don't have much choice. I wear black synthetic trousers every day. It seems stupid to buy more clothes for just the next few weeks. Maybe others don't feel that they own anything appropriate?

I'm still seeing the odd woman in thick black opaque tights. I think I would actually faint if I had to put on black opaques in this heat.

Cremolafoam · 18/07/2013 22:39

Holla I saw three or four women in black opaques today . Wtf?
They must have air con in office.

Our work room temp today topped at 37 degrees. No windows .
Also I have to wear black, but I'm down to strappy vest and light cotton a line skirt with wedge sandals.
Melted.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 18/07/2013 22:43

I'm a really hot person at the best of times so am melting ATM.

I'm wearing tailored cropped slim cut linen trousers and cotton short sleeved tops. Agree that some people are a bit too casual for work, but on the other hand seeing people in jeans, esp skinnies in this weather makes me feel all funny

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/07/2013 22:44

Also no choice-
black trousers, sensible lace-up black shoes and a white tunic.
No long sleeves.

I don't mind, it's one less thing to worry about Grin

Tights and trousers stop chafing... Ahem... That's all I'm saying.

OrangeLily · 18/07/2013 22:55

I'm not I am office but did spend today in 30C degree heat with skinny jeans on as I have really sensitive skin on my lower legs and I had sandals and a loose white Tshirt on.

Put on knee length later and ended up with a heat rash on my lower legs. Rage Hmm

Work clothes are hideous in the heat. I'm on my feet and running around all day and my feet get all hot and swollen. I just want to wear my comfortable fitflops!
