Is everyone doing push eyeliner now?

I've only just heard of it. What's so good about it? Does it make your eyes look as big as they do with a thick, slightly flicked line on the top lashes like I normally do?

is it just the brush? to be honest you can just buy a cheap artists brush in the same shape and use that before splashing out. i always use those flat brushes for face painting fine lines so i guess it works on the same principal.

That's pretty well what I do using a dark matt brown powder and brown-black mascara. It is natural looking but effective.

I use it with a dark brown eye shadow (MAC Mystery). I'm quite fair and liquid eyeliner and khol seem too harsh and too much for day makeup. It lasts much longer on me than khol/eye pencils.

I'm blind as a bat without glasses/lenses on, and the push liner method is easier for me to work with.

I've been doing this for a couple of years, and I use the brush from MAC, which is very good.

Blind as a bat here too, agree it's easier. It's also a bit more forgiving than pencils / liquids now I'm a bit older and the skin on my eyelids isn't quite as smooth and taut as it used to be. I can still use gel with an angled brush but that is more dramatic and only used for nights out.

This has been around for years, it's actually called tightlining. Laura Mercier was the first makeup artist to talk about it and I believe she invented the term.

I do this, didn't know it had a name. I use clinique quickliner, which is like an eyeshadow in a pencil, at least I think so.

I think tightlining is using an eyeliner (pencil, liquid, gel, powder) on the upper waterline.

Push liner is pushing a powder product into the lash line (not necessarily the waterline) with a flat brush like the MAC 212.

Filling in the wee gaps in your lashes from the top down, making you look like you have thick lashes, using a flat brush? Not sure if to use wet or dry shadow though?

Ooh, thanks for the link to Wayne Goss, Vibbe! He's actually watchable :) There's only so much 'squeee' I can take - love his no-fuss delivery.
Turns out I've been pushing my eyeliner forever, too; things you find out, eh? I've not been using a straight brush, though. I have a stubby diagonal one, which I cut down myself, but will try cutting a flat paint brush across and see if it works better. I tend to use powder shadow for the 'push', just on the outer third, then line the inside of the lid with a pencil.

Tightlining is where you lift the upper lashes and put the liner underneath them on the rim I thought, slightly different. I've never tried it as I wear contacts and think it eould get on them.

I always use a brush to push liner in between the lashes - it looks less harsh and aging

I had no idea it was called tightlining but I was shown how to do this by an assistant in Space NK using wetted Laura Mercia powder eyeliner in Bleu Marine and a Space NK flat brush.

I did it for my wedding as I'm fair and wanted definition but just hated the look of a line on my eyelids. It makes a huge difference and I do it every day with a black soft pencil from the Body Shop now.

I'm going to Google pushlining today as well though. It's the gap between mascara and lid liner I don't like the look of on me.

So push liner is pushing the liner into your lash line from above the top lashes, and tightlining is pushing the liner into your lash line from below the top lashes? Then there's just wacking liner on the waterline (which def makes my eyes look smaller)?

Don't do the tightliner if your eyes are a bit watery. I've had it done on me twice by the Lauren Mercier makeup artists in Spack NK and each time it's ended up on my cheeks withing an hour and my eyes are itching like crazy (contact lens wearer)

Slug - thanks, I won't try it then, one of my eyes is very prone to watering. Having said that 30 years of contact lens wearing means I'm very comfortable poking around my eyes and if I get an eyelash in there (for example) it doesn't bother them much at all.

Right, I have found a brush and bought some Mac Typographic eye shadow. Very excited to try this tomorrow morning! It's obviously not a new thing but I would never have thought to have done it if people hadn't started going on about it recently.

surely putting liner on inner rim would cause it to run off into eye?
