Does Shellac last on holiday?

fluffydressinggown · 12/07/2013 19:36

I have had Shellac and Gelish done a few times and really like it.

I am debating it having it done pre-holiday, but will it last? I don't want to have it done for it to start to peel when I am away because it will be a faff to remove.

It will be a sun, pool, sea type holiday and it will be pretty hot - Greece in August. Will the Shellac withstand the heat, the chlorine, being in the sea etc?

Mine always does.

BeaconTent · 12/07/2013 19:53

I'm away at the moment and had fingers and toes done. am on day 4 and toes are fine but finger nails have chipped so I've picked the colour off.

Crutchlow35 · 12/07/2013 20:09

iME no. Try gel instead.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 12/07/2013 20:09

Always lasts for me

TippiShagpile · 12/07/2013 20:12

IME, no. Shellac has never lasted more than a couple of days for me without chipping/peeling.

PurpleGirly · 12/07/2013 20:13

My shellac lasts about three weeks

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 12/07/2013 20:16

I must have a good technician because my Shellac stays unchipped until it grows out- about 3-4 weeks. Not sure what the secret is but they do 4 coats plus base coat and top coat and UV between each one

fluffydressinggown · 12/07/2013 20:17

Isn't Shellac gel?

When I have had it it has lasted two weeks but that was in the UK.

Mine hasn't chipped either, only grown out.

JudithOfThePiece · 12/07/2013 21:22

I'm having gel nails done tomorrow for the first time, as a practice run for my hols at the end of August. Bit concerned now - didn't think 'picking them off' was an option! What happens if you're away and it chips badly? I thought you had to have it removed at a salon?

Shesparkles · 12/07/2013 21:23

I'm on day 10 in Portugal and so far so,good-and that's me in and out of the pool several times a day

trixymalixy · 12/07/2013 21:25

I had shellac on my finger and toe nails before going in holiday. Both chipped.

trixymalixy · 12/07/2013 21:26

Judith I bought acetone based nail varnish remover and soaked it off myself.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 12/07/2013 21:28

I am shellacking for the first time tomorrow in preparation for 12 days in Turkey starting on Sunday - I'll report back! I'm only doing toes though as I don't like anything other than clear on my fingers [weirdo emoticon]

JudithOfThePiece · 12/07/2013 22:14

Thanks Trixy - If I go for it for my hols, I'll take some with me in case of emergency.

My plan is to have it on toes and fingers - a nice bright pink on toes and a more neutral colour on fingers. Just to look a bit more polished. Well, that's the theory. We'll see!!

Olivermoliver · 13/07/2013 07:34

Have had shellac on my toes for summer 2 week holidays the last few years and no issues, it keeps lovely and shiny. Had it in bright blue on my fingers to go skiing last year and it chipped. Wearing gloves all day might not have helped but I stick to toes now.

Rosa · 13/07/2013 07:54

Toes lasted but fingers chipped aft day 1 then They lifted off so easy they diddn't need remover..

TSSDNCOP · 13/07/2013 09:29

Shellac toes lasted 3 weeks in Cyprus last July.

I don't get my fingers done as I like to change the colour on whim.

Trumpton · 13/07/2013 13:08

Do you know that you can use normal nail polish over gel and shellac ? If the gel / shellac chips just use a polish over . I change my colour a lot. Remove the new colour with a NON acetone remover .

LadyMilfordHaven · 13/07/2013 14:09

i was going to, then I thought - ' hey, i quite like doing my nails and will have masses of time to do them - why not just take some remover?"

amessageforyouYoni · 13/07/2013 16:06

I got it for a 3 week beach and pool holiday in Florida last year. Didnt chip on toes at all. Fingers were crap and lifted off easily after about a week.

fluffydressinggown · 13/07/2013 21:00

Thanks for the replies. I will have the Shellac done on my toes and leave my fingers alone and take some polish and do them myself.
