Please help! Good High SPF non- greasy sunblock for face

polyhymnia · 04/07/2013 13:19

I'm in Italy and need a highish SPF (30-50) sunblock for my face and neck. So am hoping you S and B mavens can help.

I bought a Clarins SPF 30 face one with me but it's quite greasy and seems to be doing something (blocking my pores?) that's causing my face to sweat . Not a good look!

Any suggestions please ?? I'm lucky enough to be in Milan today so have access to almost any brand, including the French parapharmacie type ones ( Roche , Avene etc.

TIA

La Roche Posay gel dry touch SPF 50. I wish i had bought some now after all the sticky ones I have tried.

ygritte · 04/07/2013 13:35

Don't think I've seen it in the UK yet, but you might have some luck in Italy.

valiumredhead · 04/07/2013 13:36

P20.

Update.....you can get it in Boots UK now. It's the Anthelios XL one.

Amazinggg · 04/07/2013 13:43

I find Anthelios gives me spots - can you find Clinique City Block SPF40? It's oil free and has a slight tint, wear alone or as a primer.

polyhymnia · 04/07/2013 14:40

Easy to find City Block here.
Like the sound of the Anthelios dry touch too so will look out for that to try too.

Lancôme Genefique factor 50 is great

Vibbe · 04/07/2013 15:01

I've used one from Eucerin, and it was really good. Didn't give me spots and had a matte finish.

Avene has an oil free sunblock. Murad makes an oil free sunblock as well.

If you do tend to get oily looking skin and spots, go for something matte finish (should contain oil absorbing ingredients so you don't get oily/greasy looking skin) and oil free (shouldn't give you spots).

I dont' like most creams on my face- but I find that Ultrasun doesn't feel too heavy.

Missbopeep · 04/07/2013 15:03

CLINIQUE SUPER CITY BLOCK SPF 40

os failing that Sunsense do one which is slightly tinted spf 50. But I'd say it was slightly oilier than Clinique.

badfaketan · 04/07/2013 15:05

Institut Esthederm do a good range, they don't have an SPF rating but do it on level of sun exposure.

GrimmaTheNome · 04/07/2013 15:06

Could I ask if any of these recommended sunblocks are waterproof please? I really like Clinique city block but it's no good for holidays swimming etc.

frutilla · 04/07/2013 15:12

My absolute fave which I've been using for years (and I've tried many cheap, mid-range and expensive ones) is Boots Soltan in the tube, not the spray. I buy the 30 or 50. Love it!!

Maraki · 04/07/2013 16:21

Ultrasun, lasts all day even after swimming. Good for my sensitive skin and non oily.

MadBusLady · 04/07/2013 16:50

Estee Lauder do a factor 50 in their Daywear range, it is FABULOUS. Behaves like a normal very light moisturiser. No irritation, little balls of grease, spots etc.

polyhymnia · 04/07/2013 16:55

Thanks for all the ideas which I'm checking out.

Should have said Im not bothered about greasiness from oily skin/ spotst viewpoint as my skin isnt oily at all but because I dislike the heavy feel on my skin and it seems to make me sweat more(may start a separate thread on that one).

I love Esthederm and they gave it here, tho it is quite pricy!

I second Ultrasun - put it on, makeup on top and that is you for the day. Also have the Sunsense 50 tinted one - is good as it doesn't make you slightly pale like Ultrasun, but I love the put it on and forget about it quality of Ultrasun so it would get my vote!

Missbopeep · 04/07/2013 17:16

You could always think about BB creams- Bobbi Browns is SPF 35.

it stops the layering effect of moisturiser, sun block, foundation etc.

Amazinggg · 04/07/2013 17:24

Where's best (cheapest) in UK to buy Ultrasun? Didn't realise you didn't have to reapply it - that's a big plus for me. Such a faff to reapply sun protection if you wear makeup on top.

Yonihadtoask · 04/07/2013 17:26

Qvc often have Ultrasun on special offer. Also you can return it if you don't get on with it.

Duty Free is cheapest though. On Jet 2 flights it is really bargainous, but they had sold put on my latest flight.
