Black jersey maxi?

Justinepants · 03/07/2013 21:08

I am sure there is someone who can help me.
I bought this dress on a whim the other day, having always presumed a maxi would swamp me - 5'4" and pear shaped Next Marl Jersey Maxi

It turns out that I love it, I feel really happy in it and I think it looks good.

Now I need it in black. Next have chosen not to do a plain black one. Can anyone find me one?
Size 14 and would pay up to £40 probably.
Keeping my fingers crossed ...
ps whatever you find, please reassure me it would look ok with these - my other recent purchase which I love Clarks Scent Flower

this?

Justinepants · 03/07/2013 21:22

MrsL I am honoured to have you respond!
I'd looked that one and everything about it is great, except the satin pocket. I think it would annoy me.

I have this in grey, it's very nice for the price, flattering on the tummy and can roll up the panel as well to fit your height. www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2527832?color=c101

Duh! You wanted a maxi dress not a skirt! Ah well.

Clara - thanks. Good try!
Starfish - I looked at that one instore. I was a bit worried it might be clingy - there are a few lumps and bumps that need to be skimmed which the drawstring waist of the Next one is good at disguising - but perhaps I should go and try it on.

It comes in so many colours. If it's any good I might never wear anything else again! I shall go and try tomorrow ...

In the meantime, if anyone could find one with a drawstring waist like the Next one, I'd be really happy to hear about that too.

I would second the Oasis maxi dress too. I am a lumpy, bumpy size 14/16 and its very flattering. As are DorothyPerkins midi dresses too actually, have a look when in town. I've so far worn more than my maxi and dressed up with heels and down with Haviainnas

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/07/2013 22:46

How long is the Oasis one?

Cherrypie32 · 03/07/2013 23:10

Ankle length on me 5ft 5. Just right.

snoworneahva · 03/07/2013 23:13

I'm 5 9" and I'm happy with the length - just above my ankles.

Cherry - that's very encouraging to hear. I walk past one to get home so I shall try today. DottyP not as handy but I'll have a look when I'm passing. I think it was seeing their maxis that started me on on this. A striped one caught my eye.

Ohhelp - that's genius. If the Oasis one isn't any good, or the satin pocket of the Warehouse one really does bug me, I'll definitely do that.

Thanks ladies!

Thanks, Cherry - am a short arse so it might be too long but will have a look.

Justinepants · 04/07/2013 21:40

Well, I tried on the Oasis one but very sadly it's no good - lovely, but no good.

I think because I'm very short-waisted it all just draped down a bit too much, which meant it was more fitted around the stomach area than its probably meant to be. The belt is quite loose so it doesn't hold it all up like the drawstring does on the Next one.

I'll definitely have to check out the Warehouse one.

Also, I spotted a couple on DottyP. Has anyone tried either of these? One looks a great shape but has a cut away back which I'm not sure about, black tee maxi. The other one looks as if it might just have too much fabric and generally be less versatile, black knot front maxi.

Remus - I'm 5'4" and the Oasis was a good length for me.

lots here maxis

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 05/07/2013 10:44

here

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 05/07/2013 10:45

oops sorry sold out

Justinepants · 05/07/2013 16:21

StepAway - I had looked on Very before and not seen anything that was quite right but they seem to have a new one which looks like just the thing, Sleeveless column maxi. Thank you. I shall order it and see.

Starfish - I'm very envious of you being able to wear them in lots of different colours. I really fancied the plum one.

I bought a possible one at Sainsbury's this morningbeach dress but would need to removed the plaited rope belt which is sewn on and might be a bit of a pain.

I think I'll try the Very one then, failing that, try to get to Warehouse.
Thanks everyone.

This is lovely and in sale....

Justinepants · 06/07/2013 23:29

By the power of Mumsnet, we have cracked it! Thank you so much everyone for your input.
The Very one arrived today and it's great. Slightly racer back but can get away with that. Have gone for a 16 for a little more volume and taken the metallic beads off the drawstring and we're set to go.
Tweet - thanks for the late entry. It's lovely but a bit more than I really wanted to spend.

this one is lovely, from Debenhams, and a pretty good price
