Home waxing

Disaster has struck. 4 weeks since my last wax, and Sunday I need to get the pins out. No time to get booked in for a wax, so I thought I'd go to Boots and pick up a kit.

Any recommendations? I'm thinking along the lines of easy use strips, rather than full on kits if that helps.

Home kits never worked for me. I'd recommend an epilator if you want to do at home. Initially more ££ but cheaper in long run. Though does hurt!

My leg hair grows really quickly, if I shave I'm stubbly by the next morning!! How long does epilating last?

FattyMcChubster · 28/06/2013 19:32

Yy to epilator. Could you pick up a cheap ish one? I do lower legs, underarms, tache and bikini line with it and save a fortune in wax!

FattyMcChubster · 28/06/2013 19:33

Strawberry- it lasts as long as waxing. If you plucked a hair out with tweezers and let it grow back, how long do you think it would take? That's the length of time it'll take after epilating. Different person to person but a lot longer than shaving.

Depends on hair type, for me 1 wk max :(. Some of m girlfriends it lasts almost a month. So unfair!!!

DramaAlpaca · 28/06/2013 19:39

I found the kits with the pots of wax you heat up in the microwave quite good, but very messy.

Then I bought an epilator & I much prefer it although it's quite stingy. You can just go over legs, underarms, wherever every day quickly - no mess. Much better than shaving. It lasts as long as waxing & the more you do it the weaker the regrowing hair gets.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 28/06/2013 19:42

Thanks for that! Wow I had no idea you can epilate tache too, that would be great as waxing is difficult to fit in and do quickly.

CorrieDale · 28/06/2013 19:42

Epilator only hurts for the first few times. Apart from the underarms that is. Pits of pain!

HotPanda · 28/06/2013 20:00

Ok, so then recommend me an epilator!

What growth do I need to allow between usage? I still shave the pits, I shower daily so that's quick enough.

Can I epilate a bikini line? I wasn't going to attempt to wax that myself......

If you can feel the hair, it's normally long enough to epilate. A days growth? Guess it depends how quickly your hair grows. Most of them boast they remove hair the length of a grain of sand (?!)
Yep to bikini but you may want to trim first (to stop any, er, tangling Grin) and it hurts like a bitch. But you can't really go wrong with it and you shouldn't do any damage to yourself. Keep skin pulled tight, do small area at a time. Have Wine ready for after. You ll be fine!
Mines a bog standard boots cheapie and has been going strong for about 8/9 years?

I've got this one:

Good advice from FattyMcChubster on doing the bikini line. Also take a couple of paracetamol an hour before you do it!

I've just discovered Superdrug own brand sensitive wax strips - they're the ONLY wax strips I've ever used that don't leave me in red bumps!! Pale blue box, not too expensive and animal friendly! Grin
