How long do you keep your clothes??

Do you buy new each season, but keep 'investment buys' such as a winter coat for a couple of seasons or do you like to keep up with the latest trends, so as soon as the first flush of fashion is over with a trend, it gets binned.

Only asking as I am a terrible hoarder - not helped by changing sizes during pgs, so I seem to have acquired a lot of stuff in a variety of sizes.

I keep things until they don't fit or wear out

but then I am by no means stylish

I'm the same - until things don't fit or look pretty tatty.

I tend to buy classic stuff that will last.

I cull every 6 months and throw out anything that hasn't fit or hasn't been worn for a year. eBay for stuff that may be worth a £ or two.

Sometimes regret it though...

I tend to buy better quality stuff nowadays, that won't date too fast. Anything I think might date, I don't spend too much on just in case. And a just a few bits to 'update the look'.

My last winter coat I had for 10 years. Can't find one I like as much, or fits as well.

I'd certainly wear most new things I buy for 3 years. I have odd items including a white cotton top that I've worn on and off for nearly 25 years, and odd bits of lovely vintage that I'll keep forever. I do a vigorous pruning every 6 months and ebay stuff I'm not wearing or that doesn't suit my lifestyle any longer.

I keep 'good' coats for years. Same with wedding outfits that I buy in neutral colours like a John Rocha dress I have in brown.

However, cheaper clothes I dump.. I usually wear the older clothes around the house for cleaning first or a while.

I always dump my work blouses and re-stock as I like new stuff for September but this is usually too because my clothes get worn out. I am seven months pregnant at the moment and I have really culled a lot of clothes I was saving for I don't know what. I have learned that a leaner wardrobe is better.

I would love a new more fashionable look when I get into shape again so a bigger cull of clothes is looming.

hmmm, sounds like I need to start sorting my clothes out and either make a concerted effort to lose weight so that the things I kept because I liked them actually do fit again or get rid of them.

I cull often, at least every 3 months. Some stuff lasts for several years but I get rid of mistakes.

I also rotate my stuff, so if its not season appropriate (or I don't fit into it) then it goes away.

Go on flippity.. you will feel better.. there is nothing worse than opening the wardrobe and it being full yet you know nothing is suitable. At least if you go for it.. you could buy a few things you really need. Get a nice dress, jeans, couple of tops you feel great in.

I cull quite often.

Charity shop shopper here though. Everyone thinks I am loaded...

I keep summer/winter things that have lasted well - long jumpers in plain colours, dress tops that are 'wintery' etc also summer tops/dresses that won't date too badly - less bold prints more bright colours. Jeans are kept until worn in the middle also most shoes until they fall apart. Scarfs, gloves and what have you are kept too.

DFiance is put out by my swarms of clothes I have summer dresses from my 2011 pregnancy that have shrunk up the way and did as summer tops last year and up until 6 months into This Pregnancy which are now packed away for next Year - they cost £5 each

Things that are so worn that I can't wear it are thrown out. I have clothes I can't fit into atm boxed up as I'm working on getting back into that clothes. No point in throwing it out (yet).
I don't throw out clothes just because they aren't in fashion.

I have some of the clothes my mum bought and wore in the 70's and it's still fine.

Things that aren't in season are packed away, so I currently have winter clothes, coats and so on boxed up in the basement. When it gets colder, I'll put all of my summer clothes in boxes and bring out the winter clothes.

Usually 10 or so years. I buy what I look good (and feel good) in, regardless of prevailing fashion.
My frugality was a bit scuppered by the fact I lost 5 stone last year (stopped eating so much crap) and dropped from a size 18 to a size 8. None of my old clothes fit, most are beyond taking in. I've been building up my new wardrobe with judicious charity shop purchases, should have enough to get by before winter sets in (if winter ever actually ends).

I wear my clothes until they're worn out- I have a miniscule capsule wardrobe.
