A well fitting, smart/sexy and preferably push-up bra size 38A... impossible???

I am sooo fed up with trying to find a well fitting bra, preferably nice looking and adding a bit of "volume" in my size...
I'm starting to feel like a freak!
Am i really the only person in the world with really small breasts and a slightly larger ribcage?
Every bra I find is either too tight around my chest or has gaping cups. I need a wired one as any others leave me looking completely flat-chested.
Any suggestions of shops or online retailers would be greatly appreciated!

Okay, so I'm 28 inches under bust and 38.5 around the biggest longest part. So am I right?

And a question for other big busted women - I cannot find an underwired bra that doesn't dig in under my arms. I'm not skinny, but I'm not fat, so is this a fitting issue or an inevitable result of being a monstrous freak?

SorrelForbes · 02/07/2013 14:17

Tortoiseonthehalfshell On those measurements I'd suggest a 28H. However, that is actually smaller in cup volume that your current 32GGs. If you scoop whilst wearing one of those, any bulge/overspill?

harmony Stats has a good point there. Try a DD (you could also try DD's 32E but on the tightest hook which would give you a rough idea!)

harmonyuk2005 · 02/07/2013 14:18

Thank you statistically I've tried boost/plunge/squash together type's before and my boobs don't stay put tho that's probably down to the wrong size being worn! but it makes me a bit scared to try a plunge. Will look at balcony tho. I'd love a bra that was full cup (don't think any I've got cover my boobs so am eager to see with the new size if they actually do!) any brand or particular bra you could recommend please and shall I stick with the d cup? can't really afford to order both size atm, esp as both myself and dd had to have matching pants :) thank you again

harmonyuk2005 · 02/07/2013 14:19

cross posted with you Sorrel, will pop and try dd's on before she's home :)

harmonyuk2005 · 02/07/2013 14:33

Tried dd's 32e on, on tightest fit, still have some bulge at side, cups too big as well, tho i'm surprised they weren't more so. also realised I had mine done up on tightest setting (years of wearing like this must remember!) so no more pain where wire ends on that side and possibly a little less bulging, but still some, don't have time to examine more thoroughly with the t shirt test. off to pick lo up from playgroup :)

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 02/07/2013 14:41

Thanks, Sorrell, that might work actually - some of mine are loose in the cup since losing a bit of weight. Maybe I'll try a 30GG and see how I go - i have to order from Bravissimo and I'm overseas so it's expensive if I get it wrong. Reluctant to stray too far!

SorrelForbes · 02/07/2013 14:46

Honestly Tortoiseonthehalfshell try a 28 back, you'll be surprised. I measure 29.5" under bust and wear a 30 and some of my bras are fairly loose!

Try Brastop as they often do free international delivery.

harmonyuk2005 · 02/07/2013 16:11

hi am back! for me with the fitted t shirt still bulging at side. Shall I try a dd cup or find another style? am just worried it'll be huge? as this cup fits.

DD has tried hers on, she says it fits great, feels comfy no bulging anywhere but!!! I think the band is too big even tho she's adamant its not (because she doesn't want me to send it back!) so can someone tell me exactly about the two finger thing because I can move it away from her skin with ease and put lots of fingers under? To me it doesn't fit as snug as mine does? Thank you :)

ps dd is now saying the cup feels small? I think its the style of bra tbh? it doesn't visually look too small?

DharmaLovesDraco · 02/07/2013 16:21

My bras didn't fit at all :( far too big in the cup - I think my boobs only hang so low because they are empty loose saggy skin.

In think I'm going to go to wait until I'm in London in September and go to Rigby and Pellar, if I've been wearing the wrong size for the last 20 odd years I guess a few more months wont hurt

SorrelForbes · 02/07/2013 16:31

harmonyuk2005 That does sound as if the band might be too big for her. I'd suggest a 30F or possibly a 30FF. If the cup feels small then it probably is. Get her to scoop again and have a look at the cups from side on. I think you should try a 30DD, possibly a 30E too. It's a pain I know but it's the only way to get it right! If you want another bra that gives more coverage, another of my favourites is the Panache Idina. It's a balconette style but it comes up a bit higher on the cup than the Juna.

SorrelForbes · 02/07/2013 16:32

DharmaLovesDraco Did you scoop? Which bras in which sizes did you try? Did some fit better than others?

harmonyuk2005 · 02/07/2013 16:39

will read your advice in a min, before I forget! have just measured dd2 and her measurements are 32 band and 37 biggest bit could you size her for me please :) thank you

DharmaLovesDraco · 02/07/2013 16:43

Honest to god I scooped, one was a Cleo by Panache -Juno and the other was a Gortex Amy. I just couldn't fill it at all. I have just re-measured whilst looking at the guide and tbh I think I'm more of a 30 by 36 not 38 as previously thought - so should I try an E cup?

Thanks for your help on this

SorrelForbes · 02/07/2013 16:44

On those measurement a 32DD but that is only a starting point. Can you get her to try your 30 on back to front to see how the band fits? If it seems better than the 32 then I'd order her a 30FF. Make sure she scoops right round from the back.

SorrelForbes · 02/07/2013 16:47

DharmaLovesDraco Yes, try a 30E. Were the cups baggy all over or just at the top? Cleo Juna and Playtex Amy? Not sure a Gortex bra would be that comfy Wink

SorrelForbes · 02/07/2013 16:48

Ah sorry, Amy by Gorteks! Blush

DharmaLovesDraco · 02/07/2013 16:57

comfy no but waterproof and durable yes ;) I blame autocorrect

I will order some more. I also have to say that Bra Stop are brilliant service wise so thanks to whoever recommended them. Thanks Sorrel for your help x

harmonyuk2005 · 02/07/2013 17:17

ok! dd2 has tried my 30 on and the band is good but lots of underarm bulge so is it a 30ff or a 30f as the difference is 7?

i'm really confusing myself here! dd3 (she's the 32e) my 30 band is ok on her too so I will return hers and exchange for a different size, looking at her in the 32e from the side looked ok, she scooped! shall I go for the f cup? her boobs are round and full, oh another thing I don't think the middle bit of the 32 was sitting flat to her chest, suggesting the band is too big? she didn't feel like it was big enough or covering her very well, so maybe the idina for her too.

will check out the idina in a 30dd thank you for all your help it really is much appreciated (it'll just be dd1 to get sized when she lets me have her measurements! :) that is until dd4 and 5 get older lol! )

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 02/07/2013 17:19

just measured.. 30" bottom and 42" boobs.. I am still bf so need access, what size do you think? Does it exist? Confused

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/07/2013 17:27

start with 30hh and I promise I
it exists cos I an wearing one Grin

SorrelForbes · 02/07/2013 17:29

harmonyuk2005 OK if DD2 has a 7" gap start with a 30F (and perhaps order a 30FF too). For DD3, if the centre isn't sitting flat then it's almost definitely because the cup is too small. Order her the 30FF too as a 30F is the same cup volume as a 32E.

Frustrating I know!

PurpleWithaBlueBun Try a 30HH

harmonyuk2005 · 02/07/2013 18:31

Thank you sorrel :) long day! dd3's boobs are def bigger than dd2's so i'll go with the 30ff for dd3 which dd2 can try but as she's an independent she'll be buying her own anyway :) even tho she's in denial insists her 32C is fine and there's no way i'm a d cup cos that's huge! oh deary me she's just not "getting it". Thank you so much for your help

Wolfcub · 02/07/2013 20:27

ok I've been wearing the 36d that I had for a day or two. it is comfy but it still isn't the right size as I have some overspill. I may get the chance to bra shop tomorrow but I need guidance. I have very significant boob tissue in my armpit Sad what makes/brands should I look for that come high up under the armpit to try and get a smoother line and encourage it back where it belongs

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/07/2013 20:34

For forward encouragement a balconette probably isn't best - probably something a bit fuller like a balcony or full cup. Some plunges are also quite high under the arm. There is an element of trial and error to it - I have lots of armpit tit and need something which is wide and high enough to contain, but there is a fine line between this and rubbing.

TwoNoisyBoys · 02/07/2013 22:56

Could someone help me, please? My under boob measurement is 33, and my boob measurement is 41.........I can't work it out? I'm currently wearing a 36D..........Thank you! Smile
