Stressing - no holiday clothes

I am going away at the start of August but struggling with clothes. For the last few years I have been wearing the same clothes whenever I go away but over the years they have been getting tighter and tighter. Now not only do they not fit they are also worn out so I desperately need more clothes however because I don't feel good about how I look at the moment I am struggling to find anything I like and in all the shops I am being told after the sales it will be the autumn clothes.

Help! What can I do, I am being ever optimistic that in the next few weeks I could possibly lose 2lbs a week which could affect my clothes size so should I wait but then risk there only being autumn clothes left, or will there still be dresses etc in shops at end of July?

oh its a nightmare isn't it, I'm stressing myself out looking online for clothes and my dh is saying to me just stop eating chocolate and lose weight and then go shopping, but what if in 4 weeks there's nothing to get?

I hope you have some luck if you go shopping.

EBay?

Go to the sales. Buy a lovely pair of capri pants or similar - something cool (heatwise), in the right size for now, also some cropped jeans, a maxi dress and a few summer tops. If you lose weight they will be a bit loose, but lots of summer clothes are. If you don't lose a few pounds, they'll fit and you'll be looking as good as you can at the size you are.

I've done the same and realised I had nothing at all that fitted. Been looking around for new stuff in my larger size, and at least it fits and looks nice.

Don't stress about losing weight. You will look much better than lots of the people there when you get there, so don't waste time worrying about it.

Choose some cheap but stylish clothes from places like h&m, new look, asos and matalan. Pick judiciously to avoid cheap looking or frumpy. Lots of pretty dresses and sandals cheap, couple of shirts, cardis, you'll be fine. Enjoy your holiday.

Thanks for the tips, I'll get looking marian I do agree that when I get away I do think what did I stress for I look fine but I still can't stop myself Blush

If you're worried about the size being wrong, could you buy die things in two sizes from somewhere that does easy returns (most places actually) and then see how you're doing a few days before? At least you wouldn't have to worry about things being in stock.

I wouldn't wait until nearer the time - you are right that a lot of stuff will be gone.

I am the same, in that I have a holiday wardrobe, which I drag out for sunny holidays - and only ever replace one item or so per year.

I suggest a trip to Matalan, Primark etc. Keep it cheap and easy. Matalan in particular still has a large selection of summer clothes. Some of the high street stores are starting to sell off summer stuff now, so it all looks a bit jumble saley in there.

You are going away in 4/5 weeks? If you watch your diet, you could realistically drop half a stone or so? Buy the size you need now, and then when you do lose a little weight, you have room left in your new stuff for the holiday over indulging :)

holidayseeker · 27/06/2013 13:07

I'll take a look in Matalan later after work, your right about the high street stores I don't like buying in the sales as like you say it looks like a jumble sale.

You made me Grin with the gaining weight on holiday I am sure this will happen as I tend to make sure I wear my tighter fitting clothes at the start of the holiday and then looser fit at the end Grin

I am in the same boat, going away on Monday and realised its so long since I have been on a hot holiday everything is tight or out of date. Have been shopping this week and all the holiday stuff is in the shops right now, so get out this weekend I reckon.

I bought two pairs of harem pants and a load of vest tops. Reckon I can dress them up with some jewellery for the evenings. Plus two little cardis from tesco for cover up. And a maxi dress.

For daytime I have two little dresses and a pair of knee length shorts (fat face sort of thing) with more vest tops and a little hooded top.

There is loads of cheap stuff out there at the mo and sales on this weekend.
