do French Sole ballerinas stretch????

just bought plain leather ballerinas and they are a bit tight....will they stretch? or should I get a bigger pair?
I ordered a 7 and they only go up to an 8 so am concerned the 8 will be more of a 42 than a 41.....the 7 is a 40....

they give a bit but don't stretch as such. mine are soft leather, would imagine with patent or stiffer leather you'd get even less stretch.

you know they come up a size smaller? i'm usually a 38 but am 39 in FS.

It depends on the style you've got as to whether you need to go up a size or not. And they've recently changed their sizing for some styles, so it's all very confusing.

I would say if they're too tight for you to walk in comfortably, get a bigger pair. But if they're only a little bit tight, the plain leather ones do usually give in my experience (I've got an embarrassingly large collection of French Sole shoes, mainly off eBay.)

I don't know if French Sole shoes stretch. My experience with most other leather shoes is that they stretch, although only width. The length doesn't change.

On the French Sole website, they have the shoes in the sizes 40 (UK 7), 40.5 (UK 7.5), 41 (UK 8), 41.5 (UK 8.5) and 42 (UK 9): www.frenchsole.com/products/view/BAB01
Asos have probably just gone for a smaller selection of sizes.

If you have a look at the size guides FS website it currently says the Classic style are true to size, ie a UK 4 is a FS 37 - so technically your usual size should be okay.

I'm an avid fan of French sole and have had lots of pairs that have lasted years. They do mould to your feet over time, but the level of stretch would depend on the leather (the patent won't stretch much, butter soft leather will give a bit more). It also depends where it's tight, if it's the fabric trim around the instep then that won't give at all.

I'd try a bigger size tbh, as you don't want to stretch out an expensive pair of shoes too much anyway, it ruins the shape.

Keztrel · 25/06/2013 11:36

somanystripes have you tried undoing the bow on the fabric trim and loosening it? I'd been wearing FS for ten years before I realised you can loosen/tighten them round the top! Try that MissFoodie - you need to give them a good pull holding onto the front and back of the shoe and the lace should loosen.

No. I sold mine on ebay- I bought a 39- am between a 38 and 39 ( 5 or 5.5) in normal shoes- but they were tiny and very uncomfy.

shopafrolic · 25/06/2013 12:37

No - buy the bigger size - I made the mistake of thinking a leather pair would stretch and was continually crippled. They come up small IME.

MissFoodie · 25/06/2013 13:16

thanks all, will exchange for an 8 :)

Mine are stretching a bit, I have two pairs. The one with low cut ("toe cleavage") tend to run a bit smaller imo.
