Hair colour advice please

I'd been having my dark brown hair highlighted for about 18 months and it had got to the stage of being really dry.

I wanted a change so went to the hairdressers (as I knew it was a big colour change) to go back to being darker.

The result was ok but still quite blonde in places. Now 8 weeks on the colour has faded to a dark blonde/light brown with some lighter streaks. The unbleached hair is probably about 2 inches at the top with the rest (a long bob) having the old highlighted hair under the salon colour.

I want a medium dark brown (with no red in it) that looks natural. Do I just do it myself as the hairdresser will be ££££s and it didn't last that long.

If I do, any brand/shade advice? Also would you do the lengths before the roots as they are lighter?

I just want my healthy, shiny hair back!

I just coloured my totally peroxide white hair back to dark brown. I used the colour B4 colour restorer stuff in red first - you can buy this in Boots for under a tenner- which turned my hair pillar box red (eeeek), then used a dark brown on top. It has faded but I swim a lot & have been away on holiday too and of course my hair was white to start with.
My hair condition has not suffered although I religiously deep condition it after the wrecking experience of the bleach!

Ps, despite my hair being pillar box red before the permanent brown went on, there is no red undertone to my brown hair now.

Oooo I hadn't thought about those colour B4 things- I have seen them though. It gives me hope that you did it at home from peroxide white. Will have a look at boot online now...
