Are fitflops a s&b no no?

I need some tan leather sandals without back straps (mules?!) and have spotted the fitflop walkstars. Has anyone got them? Do they go all sweaty and slidey in hot weather like Birkenstocks and crocs? Will I be a fashion fail if I buy them?

Fit flops aren't stylish.

I couldn't comment on whether they are sweaty and slidey or if they are like Birkenstocks or Crocs.

How about these from Michael Kors?

EarlyInTheMorning · 18/06/2013 15:59

I don't dislike fitflops at all, I just wish the wedge was higher as I'm short. They are very very comfortable, I even ride my bike in them, not sweaty or slidey in the slightest.

These, however, might be more likely to pass the s&b fashion test:

They're now a universal marker of middle age, which might seem a bit dismaying. But the new range is insanely chic, by accident, and anyway they're so comfortable you don't care.

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 18/06/2013 17:30

I have fitflops and they are stylish, dark grey sequin but not sparkly or glittery at all. V comfy and I walk for miles in them... Although I have noticed that they stink recently. Who knew flipflops could make your feet stink?!

Karbea · 18/06/2013 17:40

They aren't stylish. If you are picking something for comfort then that's something different, put you can't say they are stylish.

I have these ones and they look very pretty. I love mine and wish I'd bought some years ago.

EleanorFarjeon · 18/06/2013 21:14

My mum and mil love them (nuff said).

They could never, ever be called stylish, but I've got the much derided Birkenstocks, so what do I know?

polyhymnia · 18/06/2013 22:32

They are super comfortable, some styles are acceptably stylish, IMO, and they certainly don't get sweaty and slidy in my experience.

I buy a couple of styles every season - usually the latest.

Where I live - affluent London suburb - women of all ages above, say, late twenties seem to wear them. Waitrose is thick with them in the so-called summer months!

Surbiton? Richmond? by any chance, Poly? Waitroses here are certainly the place for Fitflop flashing she says kicking off her blue ones

reelingintheyears · 19/06/2013 00:35

They are hideous, try Birkenstocks, the Papillio range are pretty.

AmberNectarine · 19/06/2013 06:40

I wear them and I'm 28!

polyhymnia · 19/06/2013 09:44

Very close, allttoomuch - Richmond is certainly one of my haunts, but my most local W'rose is one suburb further in towards London and crawling with Fitflops of every sort. Can't believe they used to be a small 'cult' brand just a few years ago!

apatchylass · 19/06/2013 12:50

lol alltoomuch - I live very near subiton and yes the silver glitter fitflops abound in Waitrose. But I think they look good. the women who wear them all have tanned, toned legs and beautiful pedicures, so I associate them with glamour. Also, the really glam mums at school wear them sometimes.

MarianForrester · 19/06/2013 12:55

I think they will make people look at you to see if you need fit flows and if they are working......Grin

I do not wish people to study my sturdy legs and judge, so would never wear them.

Plus I don't like the look of them.

hollyisalovelyname · 19/06/2013 16:20

Where I live they are usually worn by overweight middle aged women... But they are so comfy Grin

I love my FitFlops. I couldn't care less whether they're stylish or not. I have ones similar to these, but the stones are bevel cut and in a straight line: www.fitflop.co.uk/Womens-Lunetta-Pale-Bronze/883945212079,en_GB,pd.html?start=127&cgid=view_all_womens

googietheegg · 19/06/2013 18:37

Oh goodness this has not helped me decide. If I buy them I will likely be very comfortable, but it seems fitflops are but a gentle hop, skip and a jump from cooing over the m and s classic collection. Or even (whispers) per una.

hermioneweasley · 19/06/2013 21:54

Spent a day in super high, very stylish silver wedges. Was in agony by the end. Slipped on my fit flops to drive home. It felt like my feet were walking on angels. I don't care how unstylish they are, I walk miles in mine. Sigh.

JaxTellerIsAllMine · 20/06/2013 07:43

no googie fitflops are comfy but stylish in a way that flipflops are not.

You are still a MILLION miles away from comfort over style - per una etc.

Just dont buy Crocs - unless you use them in the garden or when camping. If I see you at the park/supermarket with crocs on then you are already past saving. Wink
