To Barbour or not to Barbour.....

After numerous 'waterproof' coat purchases gone wrong I am thinking about investing in a Barbour BUT I don't want to:

A. Look like a ra ra middle class snob
B. Look like I'm trying to be something I'm not
C. Look like a fuddy duddy

So with all this vanity and self conscious paranoia, this is the coat I'm thinking about. It is more of a parka than the traditional looking Barbour. What do you think??!

I love it. Doesn't look like a classic Barbour so you're avoiding the 'I just stepped off my country estate' connotations.

I have a classic Barbour jacket, and it needs waxing every so often to keep being waterproof - and I have been soaked a couple of times, so I don't use it if it'll be raining.
It's called Emily - it's this one: cdna.lystit.com/photos/2012/04/13/barbour-black-antique-emily-jacket-product-1-3229314-244959097_large_flex.jpeg

I have another Barbour, which is a proper raincoat, and that is properly waterproof. It's this model (Valerie) in black: cdnd.lystit.com/photos/2012/04/30/barbour-turf-valerie-cotton-touch-trench-product-1-3397689-262867106_large_flex.jpeg
I would most certainly recommend that as a raincoat - and it doesn't require any waxing or other care.

My dad has a classic Barbour, which he has been using for years, both as an every day jacket, when out training the dog, hunting and so on, and he has never mentioned that it wasn't waterproof. So maybe I'm just not waxing it correctly.

Thanks for reassurance SoYo, have gone for it. Was persuaded by fact it was also 50% off too :)
