Please help plain jane going to LA

Hi just wondering if anyone can help! my husband and I have been invited to LA to stay with someone one DH met through work in august, they live in a very very very nice area so I would like to look nice so i am wondering if anyone could help on outfit ideas, nail colour ideas etc i am very natural and plain i dont want to change i just would like some nice bits and pieces to take with me. Thank you.

Hi bebemad, if you need new clothes you could buy some in the UK and then pick some up extras in the states as they will be much cheaper. For smart but summery dresses have you tried Banana Republic or White Company? They both do good quality jersey stuff. You could then throw in a white cardigan if needs be (though LA will most likely be hot at night too). Or how about smart black or navy cropped trousers for the evening with wedge sandals and silk tops (try Coast or Banana Republic)? Shops like Monsoon and Oasis also do great beach cover ups. For manicures and pedicures try out shellac (again, much cheaper to get these done in the US). They will last the whole time you're there. Everyone in the states seems to have high quality pedicures so that would be top of my list, probably in a flattering pink or coral colour

LA for the most part is very casual, natural and sporty so I wouldn't worry too much. Going shopping is one of LA's greatest pleasures so take cropped trousers, maxi dresses, flat sandals / flip flops, anything beachy that you already own and buy the rest out there. Agree with Oly about pedicures.
