give the 14 year old you one piece of beauty advice what would it be ?

Mine would be - always use a moisturiser with a SPF.

Told this little gem to my DD at the weekend and I thought there's got to be some other ones I'm missing and thought "I know who to ask".... over to you now S and B Ladies Smile

Get your colours done - you'll save yourself ££££ on clothing mistakes

Don't put layers in your hair.

Do not allow your mother to dictate your hair. Endless perms because " its easy to manage" are not a good look.

You look good! Be braver about what you wear, have fun with it! Try not to be 16/17 during the era of 'grunge'.

You're not freakishly hairy so bare those arms!

Embrace your curly hair. You look a right numpty doing what you're doing with your hair to avoid it!

Don't wait until the last moment to sort out your eczema, dermatitis and milia spots. The sooner, the better.

Don't let anyone except a hairdresser cut your hair.
Don't cut it short without thinning it and having a pair of straighteners.
Don't brush it and gel it so it's plastered to your scalp.
Don't scratch. You will give yourself scars.
Wearing the same hoodie, day in, day out for 2 years even in summer-it's not a good look.
Wear a dress.
Do more exercise other than just walking.
Don't over pluck eyebrows, they will not grow back properly!

Don't let people's negative comments get you down about how you look.

YY to the SPF moisturiser every day. Although I should have put it on my hands as well as they are at least 15 years older than my face.

Howeve, one downside to using SPF facecream is that you end up having lots of very boring conversations when you turn 40 about 'not looking it' and you have to stop yourself thinking 'well you look a lot older than me, so you must be in your late 40s', only to find out that said person is about 32 Blush.

Not aimed at the 14 YO me, but certainly for today's teenagers:

Go for quality not quantity with clothes - one or two nice quality items are better than a pile of tat from Primark.

Think a hundred times twice before having tattoos anywhere visible. I dread to think what all the teenagers/early 20s are going to do with all the hand and calf tattoos when they decide they want to work in a bank or other staid institution. Or is this not a problem anymore - I see enough of them on young shop assistants to think they must be mainstream and not looked down upon by conventional employers?

smellylittleorange I suspect we must be about the same age as I agree with all of those....especially Heather Shimmer, it was all any of us ever wore in my home town, so much so that it was rare for Boots to have any in stock!!!

Listen to your Mum about shaving vs waxing and a proper skin are regime, she really does know what she's talking about. Don't be too sad about your small boobs and freakishly long and skinny legs, you'll be glad of both in a few years when both stay looking young!

Treat the skin on your neck and décolletage the same way you treat the skin on your face.

Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen.

Moisturise: face, neck, chest, hands and legs

Pay as much for a haircut as you can possibly afford.

Drink lots of water.

Go to the dentist.

Learn to like exercise. By the time you have to do it your bingo wings are already a whisker away.

Smile. It takes years off you.

DO NOT start using GHD's, especially with no heat protection. You will completely ruin your hair, and will end up having to have it cut shorter and shorter until it ends up looking ludicrous. Embrace the curls!!!

All your face needs is coconut oil (cleanser and night moisturiser), warm water and a muslin cloth.

Use Avene for day moisturiser, sun cream etc - you'll waste a fortune trying to find cheaper products which your skin will tolerate.

Wear your retainer.

Don't touch your face.

Get a fringe.

Go on the pill not because you're sexually active but because it will clear up your skin miraculously in a way that no amount of gels, creams or soaps ever could.
Wish I hadn't waited until I was 19 to discover this.

STAY OUT OF THE SUN ........... Or use a really high factor sunscreen. I used to bake myself and now my face is very wrinkly as a result. Not to mention the dangers of skin cancer

Oh God yes, don't have that first fag. Or, if you do, don't have the 2nd and 3rd, even though they make you feel sick, because you think you look cool or grown-up. By that 3rd one, you are a slave to nicotine and endlessly trying to give up - until one day someone you love dies of lung cancer, and you realise the cigs weren't your friends after all, and finally give up.

Look after your body - exercise, eat well, don't smoke. don't wait until your in your late 30's for it to dawn on you that everyone else cottoned onto these things a long time ago

Oh, and you can't fight your genes. Love what you do have, don't waste time wishing for longer legs, straighter hips etc.

I can remember vividly at 14 thinking any weight over 9 stone was obese! Then at 30 I thought going over 10 stone was the end. Then at 40, I thought anything over 11 stone would be the limit. Ha ha ha says my 50 year old self - enjoy 9 stone and eat chocolate bars!

  • Plan you wardrobe and think about what would go with what instead of buying whatever looks cool.

  • EAT. Proper nutrition is super important. It's important for both mind and body.

Don't waste your energy feeling jealous of pretty girls. Just take some time to figure out how to apply makeup and style your hair properly, rather than waiting until your 20s and still floundering with foundation. Don't be afraid to experiment either - making mistakes with your makeup when you're young will not turn you into a tramp. Nor will it turn you into one of those silly girls who wears makeup to field hockey practice. You can still be you.

Learn to run. Besides keeping you fit, it will actually make your sports/hayfever-induced asthma better, and with time, you'll use your inhalers less. It will be easier if you start this now, because you will never be this light or this energetic again. And being able to run for 40 minutes without feeling exhausted would have made you a much better field hockey player - it would have boosted your confidence in a way that your academics and music, which came easily to you, could not have.
