My friend (old next door neighbour actually) has wallpaper on one wall of her bedroom. It's a Laura Ashley one, but quite plain and with BIG print (not lots of timny fussy flowers etc), it looks fab. Not something DH would agree tyo though, a bit too feminine. So we have a chocolates & neutrals scheme (sounds wanky, I know) in our room.

Oh dear,I just undermined Mr.Anniemac's great authority in one sentence.
Somebody does have a sofa in the bay! Grin

Nobody has mentioned my need for duck egg blue walls.Does that mean they are as 'over' as I think they may be?

NomDePlume · 30/05/2006 16:33

Northerner - Make 'em yourself ?! I had to make DD's curtains for her 15ft bay window . Pretty daunting given that I hadn't used a sewing machine since school (and was crap at it then !).

Have you shopped around for quotes ? I shopped around for our custom made romans in the living room (another 15ft bay) and the quotes ranged from £500 to £950 Shock

NomDePlume · 30/05/2006 16:34

Am thinking of adding a bit of teal into our room. Chocolate and teal seems to be a 'fashionable' option at the mo.

Northerner · 30/05/2006 16:35

LMAO at me making roman blinds. No. Just can not happen. I can not make a shepard costume for nativity play let alone something to hang in my house.

sugarfree · 30/05/2006 16:35

Yeah,make them.I've just made 4 for Ds2 bedroom.
2 metre drop, probably 6 metres wide in total for less than £50.

sugarfree · 30/05/2006 16:35

You can get kits,I think.

NomDePlume · 30/05/2006 16:36

Lol, I have to say that I did a pretty good job on DD's curtains (even blackout lined them), but I wouldn't dream of making blinds to hang in my living room.

NomDePlume · 30/05/2006 16:37

You can get blind kits but they only include the strings and pulleys etc. You still have to buy and cut the fabric to the appropriate size and then sew it straight.

Northerner · 30/05/2006 16:37

I don't even have a sewing machine. I can't sew by hand. Have never sewn a button on Blush

NomDePlume · 30/05/2006 16:38

I borrowed an MNer's sewing machine Grin

zippitippitoes · 30/05/2006 16:39

Roman blinds are quite easy to make you just need to measure straight..I have made them for other people and charged them £800.00 Shock

littlerach · 30/05/2006 16:40

Anniemac, I am hoping to go for that kind of look in our bedroom, as I figure that is one room where we can have a moe feminine look.

Our sitting room is cream, brown leather sofa (much comfier than I thought it would be) and our curtains are Ikea ones, natural kind of material, then blue ticking stripes down them. but I wish we'd gone for a red pair now as it does look a little dull. Have nice canvas on the wall which has red in it to try and brighten the room.

NomDePlume · 30/05/2006 16:41

OOOOOOH, I really, really want my living room blinds to bloody hurry up.....Was told it'd be a 3 week wait, I called today (exactly 3 weeks) to ask for a progress report and was told that it'll be at least Weds of next week before they come to fit them. [impatient emoticon]

NomDePlume · 30/05/2006 16:42

DH and I collect Paul Horton's paintings and so they give us the splashes of colour and life in our living room.

zippitippitoes · 30/05/2006 16:42

Our white painted floor now has carpet over it..we have an excess of white painted french furniture which is left over from having a shop selling it.

nailpolish · 30/05/2006 16:43

i love shabby chic too

dh doesnt get it

annie i like red but not leather

NomDePlume · 30/05/2006 16:44

spacecadet · 30/05/2006 16:44
