Itchy scalp shampoo

I have had an itchy flakey scalp for a few years now and I have tried shampoos recommended by hairdressers recently by Redkin, Loreal Expert and Kerastase but all after a few uses have left my hair coated and feeling and looking greasy. I have no idea which shampoo to try next and wondered if anyone else has had the same problem?
The shampoos have helped the itchiness but eventually make my hair look and feel horrible.
I have tried Boots Expery and T-gel but they didn't calm the itchiness enough.

Phillip Kingsley flaky itchy scalp shampoo is amazing and worked from the very first time I used it. Can't recommend it highly enough. Not cheap but no more expensive than some of those others you've tried.

What biz said, it's fab.

It worked wonders for DH. Once you've tried it and decided it's for you then John Lewis sell it in a massive pump container that works out so much cheaper in the long run.

Gatecrashing as I have exact same problem, came on only very recently. Just bought a trial size. Hope it works! Thanks for tip.

Oilatum intensive. I've tried everything and it's the only one that helps for me.

My hairdresser suggested acupuncture and that is the only thing that clears it up completely for a while. She said she went for eczema. I had previously had acu for something else and with hindsight my scalp was great then, so I started going again.

The Body Shop Ginger shampoo is excellent. Its works as an anti dandruff but also to calm and soothe and itchy scalp.

This message couldn't have been timed better - my itchy scalp is driving me to distraction! Thanks OP Smile

I found the P Kingsley one worked well for a couple of weeks, but then the horrendous itching/scaliness/tightness returned on the back half of my head.

Tried olive oil, coconut oil, hair oil, the blue/orange L'oreal shampoo, t gel - nothing touched it until I tried the oilatum one mentioned up thread.

L'oreal Elvive Anti Dandruff shampoo - it was recommended on here and as it was 2 for £4 at the time, I decided to try it before I bought a more pricey shampoo that might not work (looking at you, T-Gel). Several months later I am itch and flake free and my hair is shiny.

Body shop rainforest shampoo works for me. It's sulphate free and I think it is the sulphites that were drying my scalp out and causing the itching. It's pricey but the bottle that I bought at Christmas is still going strong and I wash my hair every other day.

wickedfairy · 17/06/2013 05:01

I had the same issue for years but its been gone a few months now. I am sure it was sulphates that were causing my itch. I moved to using Aveda Shampure but in order to get rid of the itch/scaliness, first I used Nizoral from the chemist and that worked z treat (t-gel, etc were only temporary for me).

EMUZ · 17/06/2013 05:05

Second the body shop ginger. I used that to relieve it then swapped onto the rainforest one

YouCanCallMeBetty · 17/06/2013 05:10

Washing my hair with soft water works for me. I can tell when the salt needs replacing cos the itchiness and scales come back.

HomelessAngua · 18/06/2013 23:29

Selsun for 2 weeks then back to Tee tree shampoo..

Deathwatchbeetle · 19/06/2013 12:42

I second this. Love the rainforest range. I have an itchy scalp but no flakiness.
