What will reduce redness on my nose?

I have a red nose. No....I am not a clown or an alcoholic. Basically I am in my early 40s and have reasonably good skin in most ways, but it is becoming more and more apparent that I have a permanently red nose! It isn't red veins (although there are a few tiny ones on my nose and cheeks.) It is more cumulative sun damage I think. I am wearing spf 30 when I go out, but suspect that may be a bit 'barn door/horse bolted...and I should have been doing it for the last 15 years. Are there any creams or treatments that could help? Don't mind spending a bit (but not thousands...)

Sounds like it could be rosacea? It causes flushing and redness on the face, and can also cause little pimples.

I have suffered with it for years, the bad news is that there is no cure, but it can be managed. You should see your GP, there are various treatments available which can help with the redness and/or pimples. Some sufferers respond well to a course of antibiotics (although this did nothing for me). Some things can make it worse (e.g. alcohol, caffeine, sun exposure). It is just a case of experimenting to see what helps you.

Personally, I have given up on all the lotions and potions, none of which did much for me. I just have accepted that I have a permanently red nose and chin. I use a cleanser and moisturiser suitable for sensitive skin and Bare Minerals make up. The mineral make up is great. I get really good coverage but without it looking caked on. I used to dread seeing any photos because of my red nose and chin, but now I am happier as it is disguised by the make up!

So would rosacea be so focused on one spot? I have heard of it, but assumed what I have was sun damage.

Clinique have a skin care series for rosacea (called Redness Solutions), Avene (Antirougeurs) and La Roche-Posay (Rosaliac) also - and loads of other brands have it as well.

Foundation and concealer might also be an option.

food allergy? this happens to me if I have dairy - it comes up within a few hours, bright red. try keeping a food diary

Hadn't even considered food! Will keep a look out. I have just got a sample of a new CC cream that claims to be colour correcting so will give a try. I don't usually wear much make up, so was looking for a solution that didn't involve plastering my snozze with foundation etc (although I wear BB on days I go into office.) Perhaps I have to accept that at nearly 42, if I want an even complexion it will require some help!

Might be worth seeing a dermatologist as they can often suggest things or 'fix' things that you assume can't be fixed. If you have thread veins, for instance (you mention you have a few, but that they aren't the main problem), these can be zapped with a laser. S/he could also diagnose rosacea or whatever else you may have going on and suggest solutions.

Use green base coat below foundation. No really. Tried & tested professional trick. It works.
Only on the red area though, or you will look like the wicked witch of the west!

NY my main rosacea symptom is a red nose, plus some eye symptoms and a tendency to flush blotchy red after contact with water. Some of my older relatives have rosacea too, they also have flushed cheeks and spidery thread veins. Couperosa is basically the mildest form of rosacea.

My main triggers are wind, cold and contact with water. I use a good heavy-duty sunscreen every day, avoid scrubs and peels and harsh treatments. I cover the redness with a good concealer or liquid foundation: Revlon Colorstay and LRP Toleriane foundation (used under sunscreen) seem the most compatible with my skin. Some people with rosacea use green-tinted color correction creams. I need more coverage, the foundations work best for me.

My skin has been calmer after a cycle of antibiotics that are commonly prescribed for rosacea (taken for other reasons).The demodex theory of rosacea is worth a look too.

It might be worthwhile to see a dermatologist to get a professional opinion. My symptoms are in check right now but if I get a flareup, I'll get a consultation and more antibiotics. At least in the US they also have treatments for sun damage, should that be your main problem.

I have rosacea and my nose is always red to the point of severe embarrassment in the winter. I can, in the summer, tolerate a little bit of Chantecaille Future Skin foundation (light coverage but it does help) but not in winter when I'm in and out (I'm guessing you'll notice a change in severity with things like temp extremes or changes, certain foods, alcohol, certain skincare stuff?) It is unusual for it to be isolated but not impossible. Red nose (in rosacea it's called rhinophyma and this aspect is more commonly seen in men, and is often more severe in men's cases for some reason).
I do sympathise with you. My rosacea affects my face and eyes (if you ever get issues with your eyes(redness, burning, stinging, allergies etc), please get help as it's a b*tch!) and although I barely drink I always feel people looking at me, especially in winter when it flares badly, and I wonder if people think I'm a raging alcoholic!
Anyhow, try getting a foundation with some yellow in it but don't keep it just to the nose, it looks odd that way. Add a dab to the rest of your face. Chantecaille is ££ but it goes a long way. It's carried in a lot of Space NK stores so if you have a store locally then you can ring ahead and see if they stock it/ can colour-match you. They have good colours too. I like Vanilla which is not totally yellow-toned, it's more of a combo of pink and yellow. I am fair-skinned.
Fenwicks also sell Chantecaille (Brent Cross sells it, I think). If you have no Space NK near you then they do a new service which helped me. They'll colour match over the phone and send you a couple of shades to try for a day or two (in little pots). They did this for me for colour match and to check for sensitivity. Then you order from their main number.
Anyhow, I know the misery of a red nose so I hope you find an answer.
I would - if you try the Chantecaille - give the spf a miss for now. There can be a lot of harsh chemicals in them.
If you can, throw a hat or cap on during the hottest parts of the day.

I use Clinique' Redness Solution range.

Using Dermalmd Rosacea Serum on my nose and is reducing the redness. I suspect it won't permanently stop the rosacea but with daily treatments, it will keep it under control.
