Looking for a pair of sandals, what do you think of these in the brown?? I'm finally replacing my DMs, need to be comfy but not old lady!

rootypig · 13/06/2013 18:56

They're nice, yup, I really like that they're a bit rugged. Also check out Saltwater sandals to see if they're your style - they're the only comfortable flat leather sandal I've ever found, and go with pretty much anything.

ToastedTeacakes · 13/06/2013 19:11

I love the ankle strap.

ginmakesitallok · 13/06/2013 19:25

Not fond of the salt water ones, sorry.

dexter73 · 13/06/2013 19:28

I think they look a bit like our vicars sandals!! He is about 65 so not the old lady look but the old man look!

Bunbaker · 13/06/2013 19:30

Um, sorry, but I don't like them at all. But what do I know.

ginmakesitallok · 13/06/2013 19:47

I'd say more monkish than vicarish.....

OP posts:
dexter73 · 13/06/2013 19:57

We only have vicars not monks in our town!

rootypig · 13/06/2013 19:58

no worries, I know they're not much to look at off the foot! hope these ones are comfy. They look promising.

MadBannersAndCopPorn · 13/06/2013 20:13

They look lovely, go with anything- skirts, jeans, dresses. Fashionable but will still be in next year. Very Alexa Chung.
Not much of a sole for all terrain (especially as they're replacing dm's).
Please bear in mind that blowfish shoes are not leather(from what i've seen). Unless you specifically don't want leather you can get more for your money from asos/ schuh etc.
If they are a pretty pair of sandals that you like the look of and fancy buying- go for it! Happy shopping! [Jealous]

ginmakesitallok · 13/06/2013 20:16

Feeling guilty buying them, bought another new dress last week, it's hiding in the wardrobe and dp hasn't seen it yet. But what's the point in having a new dress if I don't have nice sandals??

OP posts:
MadBannersAndCopPorn · 13/06/2013 20:17

The saltwater children's shoes are to die for rootypig! Really traditional, good shout!
Added to favourites...

BitOutOfPractice · 13/06/2013 20:22

Personally? I hate them.

They are only "fashionable" and Alexa Chungesque if you are in your early 20s (tops!) and very very achingly hip. Otherwise, they are vicar shoes as dexter said

But if you like them, go for it

Crunchymunchyhoneycakes · 13/06/2013 20:24

Have you thought about some more doc martens sandals? I just got these ones but in black

store.drmartens.co.uk/p-8030-dr-martens-clarissa-sandal.aspx

I absolutely LOVE them

MadBannersAndCopPorn · 13/06/2013 20:26

Why not? As long as bills/ children do not suffer- do it.
I would love nothing more than to go out and buy a lovely summery dress and sandals, but alas! I'm pg and getting bigger by the second!
So tell me, are they really replacing dm's? Wink

Crunchymunchyhoneycakes · 13/06/2013 20:28

Have I misunderstood and the sandals are for your mother?! Darling Mother rather than Doc Marten?

ginmakesitallok · 13/06/2013 20:29

No, not really. I think if I leave my DMS for a while maybe the smell will disappear.... They are stinky! Anyway, ordered. I will just pretend I am 15 years younger and 3 stone more waif like. As long as I don't wear them with a long brown cloak....

OP posts:
ginmakesitallok · 13/06/2013 20:30

Lol, DM= Dr marten not dear mother.

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/06/2013 20:32

Sorry, but I think they are horrible. Then again, those pink DM ones are even worse!

These?

These?

Crunchymunchyhoneycakes · 13/06/2013 20:32

Thank goodness for that, I thought my frame of reference was all askew there! I like the blowfish ones btw - I love all the chunky sandals that are about at the moment. (Especially my new DM ones)

ginmakesitallok · 13/06/2013 20:35

Remus, don't like those, too flat and look like they'd fall apart after a week.

OP posts:
MoodyDidIt · 13/06/2013 20:36

they are nice but they look like they might make your legs look short, unless you are of supermodel proportions.

MadBannersAndCopPorn · 13/06/2013 20:48

Paint your toenails and strutt your stuff! You've just bought new shoes fgs! I always feel a million when I wear new shoes (even if they are £8 from matalan!)

Mix some vanish powder with a little water (or use the vanish soap thing) and rub into inner sole of dm's leave for as long as necessary depending on whiffiness. Rinse/ wipe out. Leave to dry, brand new! No need to replace!

ginmakesitallok · 13/06/2013 20:50

Thanks for the tip - will try it. (still buying the new ones though...!)

OP posts:
rootypig · 13/06/2013 22:27

yy MadBanners, am watching DD's tiny feet like a hawk, desp for the day they will fit! Grin
