Hi everyone
Can anyone tell me if the esteelauder double wear foundation is any good? Or recommend any other products?

I really like it... I have oily skin and lots of acne scars and thread veins so I like the coverage and it doesn't slide off or feel greasy.

What is your skin like and what sort of coverage/texture do you like? I would say if you are not used to wearing foundation every day then you will find Double Wear quite heavy - it's not a light and natural product. They also do 'Double Wear Light' which is (as the name suggests!) lighter, but with good staying power. It's not enough coverage for me but if you're not into thick makeup it might suit.

If you go to a counter they should be able to give you a week's worth of Double Wear or Light to try at home. I will say that the Double Wear shades are hard to match to your skin and I was initially sold a colour that was much too dark: I tend to find it 'sets' to a darker tone than it looks when you first blend it. Check your colour match in daylight.

I like quite a heavy coverage and have been wearing maybe line dream satin foundation for a while but fancy upgrading...I may take myself to a counter and ask for a sample.

Thank you

If you want to look like an orange Estee Lauder lady it's great.

I tried it and felt like I had cement on my face. Orange cement. (and this was matched by the equally orange lady on the counter)

People on here do rave about it, but I can only presume they like a heavy full make up.

I felt like my head was weighed down!

You do have to be careful with your colour match, I was orange with the first attempt but I went back and got a lighter colour and that is fine (I think!) I would specify that you don't want to look 'warmer' than your true skin tone - lots of counter ladies seem to assume you want to paint on a tan...

I have all variations of Double Wear. I love it.
I gives me really good coverage and doesn't sink into my wrinkles (I'm 40) I sometimes mix DW Light & DW.

I like it as (today for example) I got ready at 6am, I won't get back from work until 6pm and I leave to go singing at 7pm - I put on DW at 6am and it will still be there tonight with only a little touch up on my nose.

I don't wear full coverage everday. I also find that the DW heavy one (can't remember it's name) covers my red thread veins on my cheeks much better than concealer.

I love double wear. I have oily skin-especially on my nose and chin-and make-up would always have slid off my face by lunch time. With double wear its sticks all day and well into evening. I just wish it wasn't so bloody expensive! I use it in shade Shell-which they have recently brought back-and it definitely doesn't make me orange.

I like DW light, it stays really well. Almost as good for staying power is Max Factor Facefinity, so if you can't get a good color match with EL, I would try that.

mrscumberbatch · 12/06/2013 18:50

I loved it and wore it for 10 years but they recently discontinued my colour, 'Shell' and although they've brought it back in their catalogues I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

Not impressed and have bought a far cheaper rimmel bb cream which- although doesn't have the same finish etc- is equally as good for my face... and about £25 cheaper.

Ashoething · 12/06/2013 19:35

You can get Shell online 4am-that's where I got mine.

Ineedabettername · 13/06/2013 09:13

It's fab. The 'light' version is much nicer IMO. Get matched at the counter and they usually give you a little sample that lasts a good week so you can be sure before you buy. The concealer is great also.

QuinnFabray · 13/06/2013 10:46

I don't find it heavy, if I apply it in a certain way. You have to be very careful with how it's applied, and then it looks quite natural.

I love it because I have oily skin and it is the ONLY foundation I have tried, and I must have tried over fifty, that doesn't slide off my face and lasts all day.

Colour matching is a problem for me. Quite a lot of the shades are orangey. I have to mix two colours - Ecru and Fresco, to get a good match.

Best way to apply it, so it doesn't look cakey and mask like is to moisturise or prime your skin first, so there's a bit of "slip", then using only a tiny amount - half of what you'd usually use in other foundations - apply with fingers rather than a brush. Less is more with this.

I imagine if you have normal/dry skin, and don't have a problem with other foundations staying put, or you've applied it as you would other foundations, with a brush, you might hate this.

And it doesn't come with a pump, but the MAC pumps you can buy separately, fit the bottles.

QuinnFabray · 13/06/2013 10:47

I don't find the light version stays put on me. But the concealer is really great too.
