Hollywood wax - advice please

gangbangstyle · 11/06/2013 22:39

I'm going for my first Hollywood waxing this weekend. Can anyone who's had it done, or any therapists/waxers in here, help...

How long, or short, should my hair be for practical removal?
Will it disgust the waxer if some of my pubes are grey?
Will I be wearing pants pulled aside or will I be naked?
How can I stop ingrowing hairs afterwards?

Thanks very much for advice!

I get them regularly.

I'd say a cm or thereabouts

No

Paper pants

PFB Vanish

I had a Hollywood for my wedding/honeymoon. I grew mine for 2 weeks and she said it was a food length to wax. I had to remove pants.

TallulahBetty · 12/06/2013 07:58

GOOD length!! Not food!! Shock

Longleggedlovely · 12/06/2013 11:36

Cm or so, but they can trim if too long.

No.

Depends on the therapist, at my last place it was paper pants, just moved salon and they ask if you're ok with nothing as it makes it easier for them.

Exfoliate.

Knuffels · 12/06/2013 13:37

It can help if you take some painkillers first (not aspirin), or put some lavender oil on a tissue and have a few sniffs all the way through. Try to relax as much as possible, the more you tense up, the more it can hurt. And exhaling hard as they remove the wax also helps (although can make you sound a bit odd).

well I'm going for my regular upper leg and Brazilian wax (i epilate lower legs) later so I'll be thinking of you OP I'll shower, talc, trim and take paracetamol beforehand but otherwise errr sold as seen...I don't epilate the whole way up as I find it really difficult to get a good result, I really look forward to chatting to my friend the beautician and getting a lie down Wink

MrsKoala · 12/06/2013 20:22

I would take the strongest painkillers you can get your hands on. I have prescription ones for other pain and they really do the trick. And if it's a civilised time (after lunch) i may even have a large glass of wine first!

I've only ever had a Brazilian. Some places give you paper pants, others ask for you to be sans knickers, and others just ask you to pull them to the side. I'd wait to see what they ask for.

I trim down to about a cm long, wash with not too hot water, add a bit of talc (helps the grip of the wax).

I exfoliate after, but nothing stops the ingrowing hairs unfortunately.

spotscotch · 12/06/2013 20:26

Wait, isn't a Hollywood when you get the whole lot off? So people exfoliate their actual fanjos?

MsIngaFewmarbles · 12/06/2013 20:29

Do they do 'round the back' with a brazillian/hollywood?

MrsKoala · 12/06/2013 20:32

Yes - Altho i often have an 'extended' bikini - which is the normal triangle at the front and 'complete clearance' right round my ring piece and up my crack.

PiratePanda · 12/06/2013 20:37

Ow ow ow

EleanorFarjeon · 12/06/2013 20:41

I'd say 1cm or less.

No knickers.

Doesn't hurt imo, so don't need painkillers.

It's intimate - invloves your bum!

And of course grey hairs will not disgust the waxer.

My friend gets a Hollywood and she has piles!

I don't get ingrowns.

MrsKoala · 12/06/2013 20:41

Honestly the undercarriage and bum part doesn't hurt at all - the most noticeable thing is the temperature of the wax if it's on the warm side. Oddly i find the calves, shins and ankles the most painful part. And the toes and underarms make my lips tingle (the ones on my face you dirty mares!).

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 12/06/2013 22:20

I am a therapist who does everything from a basic bikini to bum crack and hollywood.

I get my clients to go sans knickers as its easier for me. You don't get a haircut with your hat on!

2mm is the best length, any shorter and wax won't grip, any longer and its more ouchy.

Nothing would 'disgust' me inc grey hairs apart from an unwashed fanjo which I would refuse to wax.

Ingrowing hairs can be a nuisance for some people. I extract them but exfoliation and not shaving inbetween waxing is the best advice.

Hope that helps.

fuckingscabies · 12/06/2013 22:23

Valium, tramadol (or morphine) + a bottle of wine.

I do so love the bit where you lie on your front and spread your cheeks. Enjoy!

fm19lth · 12/06/2013 23:02

I am a therapist and do alot of intimate waxing. Not going to lie, it will be uncomfortable. I usually let a client wear what they are comfortable in & as you get to know your therapist you will be fine wearing nothing getting waxed. It will be over in no time and you will be fine. Get plenty of cooling aloe vera gel for afterwards and good luck!

SarahGoodwin33 · 12/06/2013 23:22

I have Brazilian and am a ts! I started wearing paper knickers but got awkward and now I go naked cos therapist knows me and is a friend. Bloody painful especially round the 'corner' but that's because it's slightly different for me. Girl at work just had Hollywood and used oils before hand oh and you need about cm as other people said.
